Count me in too, I think I might wear the red shoes!

The only black coat I had SG, was a black rain coat which I loved, but I ruined it by washing it, duh! It went all floppy and was never the same again, I really do think I need a black coat now *scurries away to look on t'internet*

ETA: That's exactly it Fedup, I like to fade into the background too and also think if someone compliments me, they are mocking me.

maybe we could have a wear red shoes day?:rotfl:(I have 2 pairs, sandals type)
chose clothes for tomorrow to go to town and thought I'd home dry clean my trousers plus 3 other items.used last of the Svit and went to order more from tesco but not on the website.I googled it and found it had been discontinued years ago:(:(:(Lakeland have a sim (but apparently not so good ) version so will try and get that tomorrow, its nearly £10 so not cheap but guess its better than paying for dry cleaning.

Ah, Rosemary, how do you find the home dry cleaning? How does it work? And let us know if the Lakeland stuff works.

    So Freedom Monday - bit of a back story . . .

I go my sewing machine out for the first time in months on Saturday :j And I altered a men's waistcoat I bought on eBay ages ago but didn't quite fit, and blouse which the sleeves where never quite long enough (I'm a long person! Good on the legs, not so much on the cold wrists!) on so now they are 3/4 length instead :D

Sooo, today I wore the waistcoat. With, my grey wool trousers, a white shirt and my grey chunky cardigan.
    Maybe a Freedom week eh?

Oh yeah I'm up for that! OK will have to make a plan tonight before I go to bed :D I think I might try for jewelry - have loads but I never remember to put it on in the mornings.

I also have spends to declare - I've decided to keep the howies jeans. The use of my parent's full length mirror (I need one of those, but no wall to put it on!) confirmed they were good. So £65 to add to my total. I know that's a lot of money, but reduced from £155 and I know that their jeans last.

Also while at my parents I found three pairs of shoes I'm going to put on eBay, so that should help with some of the damage :D

Phew! A bit longer than I intended, but I've been off line for a while, needed to catch up!

    Good evening all :)

I think the idea of a funky week sounds really cool - wont join in this week as I wont really have time to plan my outfits buttt deffo up for it next week :D Mine will mainly be a coursarge here - a different bobble there- even a lipgloss I rarely use!!

Currently sorting a couple of bits to list on ebay to make up for my slurge at the weekend. I know I sound like im not taking this challange seriously, for that im sorry, but i just find this very.. very hard, since i've started work because I live at home and dont drive yet, ive never really struggled to buy whatever I want when I want, so to try and restrict myself its a very odd feeling, and I will have hic-ups, its human, im just trying to remove the salt from the woond :)

YEAH SWINSTIE!!!! u go girl :T... is'nt that wot its all about.. maybe next Monday you will wear ur "random" item with pride TO the photocopier.. "baby steps.. just little steps at a time"!!!!!!

    :p

Especially if heels are involved! :rotfl:

Swinstie, I was the same the first time I wore dresses to work. I have a couple of dresses I absolutely love that would hardly see the light of day if I didn't wear them to work. And I was sooooo self conscious the first time I went for it - and I did get lots of comments. But they were all on the postive side! I had to take a massive deep breath and remember people were being lovely, I was the one freaking out! I have now learned just to say "thank you, it is rather gorgeous, isn't it." :D

I have tried a deliberate ploy of reading this thread around the time an ebay top I was watching was ending. It worked, I lost track of time and didn't bid and now it will be gone.

I have lost out on that elusive blue top I would like! But as I'm not sure what it is I'm after, other than the colour, that's probably a good thing! This was a halter neck and while lovely, I could only really wear it if I was heading off out, which is few and far between these days! One I could wear to work or with jeans at the weekend would be a good bet! I have been eyeing up a few on LA Redoute, but I'll wait until they send me another of their letters enticing me to buy and see what they offer me.

Johnsons' do a Premier Club thing which is only £9 a year by direct debit and you get loads of offers - mine has already paid for itself many times over as I got winter coats and duvets cleaned on 2-for-1. Might be worth a look if there is anything you do need dry cleaning.

full length mirror (I need one of those, but no wall to put it on!)

Any room to prop one up? I have an Ikea one which was about £15 and it just leans up against the wall. (Couldn't find a cheval one I liked and would take up more space anyhow.)

Still no spending from me. Despite the new White Company catalogue - have just put all the things I like on my Amazon wish list and promised myself I can look at them after February payday. Thoroughly skint this month thanks to paying to renew a professional registration :( but probably best to have it on CV in these uncertain times.

Don't worry about it sweet. It's all part of the steep learning curve! I joined first in Feb 2008. It took me until Feb 2010 before noticed my thinking had changed. And I can still override the sensible thoughts for the right dress or shoes! :D It really is baby steps. One day you will be hugely excited because you decided not to buy something because you didn't really need it. And your friend's will role their eyes and stare at you incredulously! But we will all be jumping up and down and excited with you because we've all been there and we know how it feels!

    Hello lovelie,

wow you are a fab chatty lot - I love it.

Welcome to ~moneysavingnovice~ & welcome back to Queen.Bess great to have you both here :j.

I am loving the freedom monday & although I went with the same black trousers & knee boots look as last monday, this week I threw a rarely worn greeny blue jumper into the mix along with an off white pashmina twisted up & worn as a scarf - the office is freezing until about midday so it keeps me warm too.

Love the idea of a whole week of freedom - will struggle a bit due to body & clothes size not matching yet, but will have a dam good try.

I'm also loving the thought of little areas of red shoes all over the country on a certain day. Maybe you'll feel braver Swinstie if you know we're all doing it too :j

Off to add newcomers to the members list of our exclusive club ;)

  • Morning all! I need to do some ebaying today to offset the impending credit card bill, otherwise I'll have to declare some bits and pieces to you all. So far this year I've spent about £150 but everything has been reduced in the sales. The credit card balance currently stands at about £75 as a lot of my purchases were exchanges from last year so I'm not counting them. Whatever I can make on ebay, I'll be deducting from my total. Is that clear to anyone?!

I was in Sainsburys yesterday and nearly bought some full priced underwear but I thought of this challenge and put it back. I really don't need it. But I want it!

It's a short month but I think it's going to seem like a long time till next payday so this month I'm thinking about going cold turkey and not buying anything. Eek! I think I need to go wardrobe shopping now.

    Have a good day all.

Ah, Rosemary, how do you find the home dry cleaning? How does it work? And let us know if the Lakeland stuff works.
actually I hardly ever do dry cleaning as
a/ so many clothes(hangs head in shame)
b/ try to avoid dry clean items

soo the Svit must have been in the cupboard for years,it seems to work ok and makes clothes nice and fresh, hope to buy the Lakeland refil but use in the Svit bag to save money:)

I was once in Johnston the cleaners club but did not really use all the offers, maybe next time I need big coat and long velvet curtains doing I will rejoin
