Hi Lula-Hula , I was wondering if it is still possible to join the challenge this year? I am married with 3 kids, but 2 of them are starting secondary school this year which is going to be very expensive , so I'm going to just set a budget for me of £100 fro 2011. This is to include everthing, clothes/shoes/undies and pj's. Thanks very much :D

First spend of the year to 'fess up to! £15 on a swimsuit, not exactly the most practical of purchases when I'm being strict, but I needed a new one for the weekend (my Hen party in a Spa!) and I'll get plenty of wear throughout the rest of the year too, especially when I'm on holiday in September where we'll be going to waterparks, I'm not making the mistake of going down a water slide in a bikini again!

    Luckily nothing to report.
It's my birthday next week so asked OH for trainers as I need new ones so I didn't have to spend on them and he bought me two pairs as we went an bought sale price ones! So I have my new trainers, just thought it was easier to ask him for something I actually need than ask him for something I don't really need but want.

a $14.50 spend for me. But that was for 1 long sleeve and 3 short sleeve tops from the charity shop. Bargain.

Won't have any chance to go clothes shopping for the next 10 days as we are going on a camping and hiking holiday.....:eek:

back to work today and made up a new outfit with boots over 10 years old, sale skirt and top from last year and new jumper from this year with necklace from sale felt very smart too:):):)...only item paid full price for was the boots(actually present from dH,thought very extravagent at £100 but works out @£10 a year:))
it is amazing how many outfits you can get when you mix things up,maybe I should throw all clothes on the bed and pick out items with my eyes shut.....could be very interesting:eek::eek::eek::eek:

I do that too, totted up my outfit on the bus this morning. The only item I'd paid full price for was my handbag but it's so gorgeous that it brightens up any outfit. My coat was full-price too but a present from my mum (I wouldn't count presents if I were you, rosemary!)

I have a spend to declare Lula: I went into House of Fraser to get my hair cut and they were running late so I ended up browsing sale racks :o and found a long-sleeved black belted dress, down to £35 from £120. Specifically it's for a funeral (the other outfit I was planning didn't look very good) but I'll be able to wear it to work/smart functions as well.

So that's 10% of my 2011 budget gone already! Luckily I didn't see anything else remotely nice in the sales.

  • Thanks everyone for your replies to my bra questions. I use the handwash setting on my washing machine for my bras, but I only have 5 bras so it seems a waste to run the WM so empty. Hence I try not to do them every week (wearing my bras about three times each, I'm ashamed to say).

Luckily, I bought a new bra last week (already declared) and today I FINALLY received my three lucky dip bras I ordered on the 27th of November from Ann Summers. So now I have 9 bras, which is much better. I can wear them twice and wash them every fortnight.

New thing to discuss (following on from Rosemary mentioning her boots work out at £10 a year):

What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought and what's its cost per wear (or if that's too hard, cost per month/year).
Do you have anything quite cheap with a really high cost per wear? (I have some things I've never worn, hence they have an infinite cost per wear!!)
