First big challenge, White Stuff Catalogue came, didn't like much in their last couple of ranges but do in this one and feeling really fed up, thankfully I'm not going into town this weekend otherwise I may blow my whole budget in one weekend.

But I won't I don't need the new things now - I will stay strong!

  • Thanks everyone for your replies to my bra questions. I use the handwash setting on my washing machine for my bras, but I only have 5 bras so it seems a waste to run the WM so empty. Hence I try not to do them every week (wearing my bras about three times each, I'm ashamed to say).

Luckily, I bought a new bra last week (already declared) and today I FINALLY received my three lucky dip bras I ordered on the 27th of November from Ann Summers. So now I have 9 bras, which is much better. I can wear them twice and wash them every fortnight.

New thing to discuss (following on from Rosemary mentioning her boots work out at £10 a year):

What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought and what's its cost per wear (or if that's too hard, cost per month/year).
Do you have anything quite cheap with a really high cost per wear? (I have some things I've never worn, hence they have an infinite cost per wear!!)

    Becky x x x

The most expensive thing I've ever bought is a floor length Toscana sheepskin coat, it was £1100.... Argh!! But... it's guaranteed for 5 years, so in that time it will be repaired (the material and the fastenings) for free. I've had it two years so far and it still looks good as new. I got it when my dad passed away he left a bit of money, and so far I did notice the difference this winter not having to go and get a new coat, the 'beast' as my OH calls it was ready and waiting!
So ideally it'll be 110 a year if it lasts as long as I intend it to, but we shall just have to see, so far it's 550 a year but it's still looking fab so roll on next winter... :)

My most expensive buy was probably my black leather biker jacket which was £150, but I got so much wear out of it as my boyfriend had a motorbike for a couple of years so wore it every time we went out on the bike, plus I used it as a winter coat (when I was a skint student) and it was usually the jacket of choice to go with jeans for a casual night out.

Must have worn it hundreds of times over about three years. However, I lost weight, so I had to give it away, which was very sad, but it just looked like I was wearing a sack! I've got a red leather jacket now bought second hand and I hardly wear it, one day I will buy another classic black one!

I've been drooling over a Dorothy Perkins dress in the sale for £18, but I can't really justify it as I had some new clothes from the sales last month and I haven't lost any weight yet (said I wanted to lose the 4lbs I put on over xmas!) So I can't have it unless it's reduced further... then I'll renegotiate with myself...

So far so good - I took back an unwanted christmas gift today, money was returned onto a giftcard so now have an extra £4.80 to add to my £100 budget.
  • spent 31.50(got 10% student discount) in oasis on a nice dress and top dress was 60 originally and top over 20 so "saved" quite a bit
£365 a year spend challenge - this has included food/clothes/beauty?? who knows where I am
    20,000 step a day challenge
  • Spent  £2.50 today on a leather bag and a brooch.

Had a £67.50 gift voucher that I wanted to use up and as I didn't want to have the change given to me in another voucher thought I'd over spend by £2.50!:D

The amount of stuff I'm returning to CLarks, Next and M&S tomorrow I don't feel guilty at all! And I'm still well within budget! :D :rotfl:
  • Hello Everybody!

Lula, can I join you guys? I was in the challenge last year, although I had to bow out gracefully sometime in September. However I like this principal of setting your own rules - I'm not ready for the £100 a year yet!

My budget is going to be £360 for the year (£30 a month)

So I am including home and work wear in my budget (as I'm trying to have clothes that work harder for me by doing multiple jobs), underwear, pjs but not shoes, accessories or coats. I'm also one of the craft-y ones going to try and make more clothes this year so that should help.

I like all these discussion points too! Already earning you keep Becky ;)

    So in order:

Bras - I also wear about 3 times, and if I have something new and delicate I wash by hand, but eventually I just chuck in with everything else :p Should maybe take a bit more care! I don't match, mostly because I almost never find sets where I like both top and bottom half, so I have given up. Also at the moment there isn't anybody to appreciate whether I match or not so doesn't seem very important! I'm in awe of you girls who match to your outfits! A whole new level!

Actually need to get some new bras . . .

The most expensive item I own is my winter coat, which I bought in 2007 (so this is it's 4th winter) for £395. It's gorgeous - red, knee length, double breasted (sort of) and a bit military. Super warm too in British wool. I bought it from a small designer in Edinburgh and it was the only in that colour and that size that they made, so totally unique! Also gets sooo many compliments, which a girl can't put a price on!

And my best bargain? Probably a dress I bought last year - French Connection black sequined short shift with elbow length sleeves £260 reduced to £45. It's my go to party dress.

No spends to declare as yet, but I am going into town tomorrow morning so will see how I fare in the sales (maybe look for some new bras . . . )

    Welcome back karmachilovething :D

Yep, for me it was either set your own budget this year or not do the challenge at all. So far, I'm more keen on getting rid of stuff that's hanging aroudn rather than buying more. However, there is plenty of time for this situation to change ;)

Your coat sounds gorgeous, off to add you to the list :)
