I'm also worried about my other sister who still lives at home - she's 14 but is really lonely now that me and my other sister have moved out, and she's been crying to me lately because mum & dad work long hours (always have) and she's home alone a lot - plus they live in the middle of nowhere so its difficult for her to visit/be visited by friends... any advice? I didn't really know what to say to her when she was talking to me, as I didnt feel that there was much I could do other than move back home (and that certainly isn't about to happen!!!)

    Hi Roz,

Do you and your sister have MSN instant messaging or something similar so that you could arrange to chat to each other by PC, every day or every second day? It may well be that all she needs is to "feel" as though she has company each day when she is on her own. If not, don't know what to suggest other than phoning her for a quick chat each day just to let her know you are thinking of her. It's surprising how just a two-minute phone call can make someone feel wanted and loved. I'm phoning or texting my cousin every few days as she is going through a really hard time at the moment and feels she is all alone.

Good luck. Your sisters are very lucky to have you.

Sorry my last post wasn't very O.S. I was just feeling sorry for myself, and knew I'd find some support here... and as usual I did, (Thanks Beachbeth, BargainRzl and Thriftlady particularly.)

Vicky: Have you made a final decision then, you certainly sound a little more positive? Sorry that you're not well, but at least it gives you some time out. (Tough way to get it like...)
Crazychick: Is Disney on Ice any good for adults? I've always fancied going.

Twin Nephew & Neice's birthdays on 22nd, going to be five. I've sorted their Christmas presents out, but not the birthdays. Sister is similarly O.S. Any suggestions for gifts?

Had a lentil & chickpea curry tonight with home fried poppadums, and very dry Lidl Naans. (I'm emptying store cupboards & freezers ready for a freezer cookathon to set us up for the next two months).
Introduced DH to Stardrops this morning, they're getting along ever so well. He appeared at the first floor bedroom window this afternoon having got the ladders out to do the windows with Stardrops.

Right, phoning D.D. tonight, D.S. hasn't called home for three weeks now, I do miss him.

    hey folks....

   at ISP: their incompetence knocked us offline for nearly another week. It took 2 visits by my OH (who used to be a sysadmin, he knows what he's doing) to even get the incompetents to admit there was a problem and arrange for an engineer's visit: he left a message with them for the boss and customer support manager to call him, neither of them did.

said engineers turned up this afternoon, polite, listened to what OH had to tell them, agreed it was nothing to do with our systems, made 1 call to the office and bingo.. we were reconnected (!)

i've spent the afternoon catching up, in between baking bread, and i'm finally caught up now.. not too happy though, and a bit down, but i'll get there. at least we got the net back now..

    have a good weekend everyone..

  • Have had miserable day. Went to group therapy today and got in a state about the boundaries they have. They seem like such silly rules; no talking outside the group, no touching, no asking questions and no problem solving. I am quite empathetic and hate not being able to cuddle some one distressed or unhappy, I want to know the other people on a more personal level than just one and half hours of confidential anonymous therapy once a week. I am on holiday for 2 weeks on Friday next week so will miss 2 sessions, I want to send a card to let them know I am thinking of them but no, I am not allowed! I feel s**t.

Have done no OS today, went to the shops bought two skirts and a jumper for holiday and then went home to bed for two hours! Have put BM on and WM on but done nothing with the wet washing and now have got OH to get Indian take out for tea! Am not having large glass of red wine (I don't drink normally at all) and feeling sorry for myself.

On top of all of this I am in a lot of pain and can take no more painkillers for 6 hours!

Oh well moan over. I have not read all the posts but welcome to Valentine and congrats on the baba. Hugs to all who need them, I would like a slice of your cake please Pennypincher - it will go down well for pud.

    Love to all.

    You were joking right?

I've only just got rid of the "teens" myself! (as in I'm only just 20 and not a teenager anymore IYSWIM)

EDIT: Crazychik, just seen your post! I wanted to go and see Disney on Ice at the Arena but OH told me that I was too big and to grow up!! :rotfl: see - I couldn't look after a 14YO - I can barely look after myself!!!

Yes.. I was joking!!! I'd rather chew off my own limbs than have a teenager in the house.. my own is bad enough!!

You should go see the Disney on Ice.. they are brilliant.. I only had children so I had an excuse to go see these things.. I'll stop having children when I become a grandma and can still go!! lol :rotfl:

TAPLADY aww what is it with our men, eh?! - they do tend to forget that it's actually hard work looking after family, house and organisation all around! - i hope he'll make up for it ;)

JELLYCAT sounds a bit strange your group. any chance of finding a different one?? i am the same: i am rather touchy :o
sorry about your pain! i hope you'll find something to distract yourself with :grouphug: (see? that's the 'right' kind of group therapy :D)

i hope everyone has a relaxing evening and some
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work ;)
  • Hello everyone,

Thank you so much for your lovely welcomes - its been so lovely having a first post with such momenteous news (for us anyway!).

The update is that we've done a *proper* (men!) test now after work today and it had a definite line so it looks like we're 4 weeks and 5 days pregnant! Arrggh! One more to do tomorrow first thing, then I promise I'll leave them alone. There's a good reason why I'm checking so many times - TMI I know, but once is definitely enough!

Strangely enough, probably phantom symptoms I know - but today I felt v. queasy, sore boobs, sick (after I ate chocolate - ooops!), tender abdomen and exhausted - I fell asleep and drooled on the train home! Probably all in the mind, after the pregnancy excitement of the past 24 hours - but still felt cr*ppy.

I'm going to try and stay off the pregnancy chat now - but it is difficult - we're trying not to tell anyone until 14 weeks and I'm sure you all understand how limited pregnancy conversations with men are! Anyway - stay OFF the subject Valentine!

I didn't make root veg stew or put on any washing today, you'll all be surprised to hear :o ! I came home from work, put on my trackies and vegged on the sofa - internetting and tv. However, met 2 people I'm trying to impress in the village at the local shop when I'd popped out with my hair in a mad bun and my paint splattered trackies on, then got home and the (immaculate) upstairs neighbour was sitting on my (cat hair covered) sofa - oops - pregnancy tests in full view! Gah! Anyway - she had brought gingerbread and we don't think she noticed the tests!

Working tomorrow which I could so do without so heading to bed now. I've got to finish a presentation tomorrow am before I leave (my brain's a bit mushy to do it now)...Heading to bed...

Have a lovely Friday night everyone.

    Valentine xxx
  • Blimey, things aren't going well here either :(

The motherboard on the pc has gone, they don't make that sort now, so rather than him hunt for one, I've agreed for him to upgrade the processor too. More expense! The house alarm went wrong the other week and the oven can't be fitted until next wednesday!! At least he sorted out the lappy so I'm sat in bed now :)

Couldn't go out for my pizza either cos PC repair man was late so Mr TM took the boys :(

Anyway.... have a large glass of something blue (and strong) next to me. Watching QI then I shall put BM on overnight. (((hugs))) to all those who need them cos of problems etc and see you all tomorrow, when plans are to make something with a pumpkin that I got cheap from Lidl the other day. (soup etc, not a carved one :rotfl:)
