Whilst I understand the rhetoric about lorries failing to turn up etc, it does not really explain the thefts of cards and money from the mail - or other small packages.
As for costing £30 to send a letter from one end of the UK to the other (and I won't ask you to cite where you plucked that figure from - but I suspect it's typical left wing union type tripe) - I would have no problem with that myself. A service costs what it costs. I'm more likely to make use of other communications technologies such as the phone or email to communicate from John O'Groats to Lands End anyway.
A 41p stamp is rather like a lottery - you never really know if it will get there or not - so it's a nonsense to suggest it. Any item of value will cost you closer to a fiver to send by Royal Mail if you want to be sure Ali Barber and the 40 thieves don't steal it in transit.
The real cost of posting with Royal Mail is never 41p for anything of value. The fact that 'insured' services exists stands to say "we steal and lose stuff". I would not put something in a DX collection and even consider it would get lost or stolen. I would not walk into DHL or Citylink and be told "If you don't want it lost or stolen it will cost you more".
RM needs privatising with the field opened up to competition. We need to smash that CWU and militants that hold the public to ransom when they don't like being asked to do a full days work. The theft and madness must end. It's clearly widespread and Royal Mail Security are not doing enough to deal with it.
