Royal Mail - Christmas 2010 {sarcastic}

I think there are one or two bad eggs in every business, even the Police Force has one or two rogues working for them, no company is immune.
I have had post go missing in the past, particularly over Christmas when the RM have a large percentage of temp workers, some of which do indeed have sticky fingers.
I imagine when there is more competition with our postal service, that sticky fingered staff will still exist and not just within the Royal Mail service. I would not trust sending cash in an envelope for the simple reason I would not trust the service to deliver it. But on saying this, not ALL postal staff working for RM are thieves, and its wrong to assume they are all as bad as each other.
Any parcels of value I need to send, I would admit to no longer using the RM for, this is more to do with unreliability than theft. I am happy to pay that little bit extra to DHL or Citilink for a more reliable and secure a prompt delivery.
On saying this, I still send\receive mail via Royal Mail, when competition is much more open to the public, only then will I consider the cheapest and best service available for me, whether or not that is with the RM.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Same crap different day with Royal Mail, items missing again, wasted paper, time and ink on the claims process, who knows, they may even pay out.0

We had an item sent from a computer retailer on the 4th arrive today.
First time apart from Christmas I've ever had a delivery on a Sunday from RM - I think they are screwed with regards to packages (and I still haven't had my copy of the RT).0 -
we`ve also had a RM delivery today, all recently sent0

Can i please readdress the balance for Royal Mail.
when it snowed a lot of courier companies and alot of supermarkets stopped delivers. A lot of the courier companies gave work to royal mail to ensure work was delivered.
In the run up to xmas the 6th december is known as black monday. it is the day when most internet orders are given to royal mail.
A well known internet entertainemt company usuallys has 40 articulated lorries into their premises. The forcasted on the friday for the monday 140 Artics ( an increase of 100 vehicles) on monday RM got a phonecall to say internet orders had reached unprecedented amounts over the weekend due to the snow could we send as many vehicles as possible.
Royal Mail sent 291 Articulated vehicles to them on the monday and still did not clear all the work from the companies premises. Instead of thinking to themselves like must other couriers that it wasn't forecasted so its the companies problem, Royal Mail instead pumped another £20 million into clearing it. They phoned every vehicle hire company in the country and hired every spare vehicles, they flooded the streets with agency workers to try and clear it and managers were withdrawn and working 90 hour weeks to ensure most of the work was delivered.
The Prime Minister has written a big thankyou to royal mail for pulling out all the stops to ensure minimum disruption was given.
Yes some mail was delayed and is still being delivered. At least it is being delivered unlike some supermarkets who abandon most of their home delivery services.
Yes the company has some bad people but most workers are hard working and decent.
Mr Oink please feel free to post which company you work for and i'm sure i could find some bad press, how would you like it if you was then tarred with the same brush.
If the mail is privatised, the next day service will disapear, and to post a letter from john o'groats to land end will got £30 instead of the 41p which it costs at the moment.
you mention BT, when BT were privatised yes they lost a lot of customers but most came back after a few years.
Royal Mail lost a lot of business customers, these same companies are now returning to Royal Mail, the reason why, we have a good reputation and we always deliver 90% of mail by the next working day, yes we may not be the cheapest but we are the best at the moment.
I have worked my way up from a Postman to a revenue meanger for Royal Mail.

I have 3 packages 'lost' or whatever you want to call it, for items ordered either before Christmas or inbetween Christmas and New Year. Some say couriers delivered it, some are RM. No idea if they will turn up eventually but it will be the companies I ordered from incurring the loss not me. Losers all round.
If they are lost, they must end up somewhere????0 -

In 5 years time a postal worker will be found in your area with stacks of mail and parcels piled up in his house including some of yours. He will explain that that local RM management made his life so difficult the only way he could cope was by storing it in his house.
BTW one way of ensuring you get all your post is to do one of those correctly delivered surveys. Once RM realise that you are counting your post, all of it arrives exactly on time even when you have stopped doing it for a while. I find it very amusing.....I'm not cynical I'm realistic
