I promised a post about thinking outside the box when it comes to ebaying... here are my tips and suggestions:
1. Try to keep boxes, instructions, any warrenties as when you sell an item with these extras you will achieve a better price.
2. Dont think that if something is broken or has something missing that no one will want it. I sold a broken DS for £26 pounds last year - the spin was broken. Just make sure you are very very clear in your listing details and BE HONEST!
3. Certain brands sell well such as Monsoon, Next, particularly things like party dresses and party shoes for kids.
4. Think about spring and the wedding season soon approaching.
5. I have sold odd parts of toys for example: I had peppa pigs car with steering wheel... but for some reason we only had the steering wheel left... sold that for £5.00 - obviously someone had lost or broken theirs.
6. Magazines - I have a mother who hordes cross stitch mags... they sell very well as do Country life especially to USA.
7. Bikes of course sell well as do lawn mowers, have sold 5 bikes in various conditions, and 2 lawn mowers.
8. Slides, climbing frames, trampoline - especially TP ones. Have sold accessories such as swing seats the kids have grown out off, even in a rusty state.
9. Summer stuff in winter... people who are taking hot winter sun holidays need summer stuff!
10. Vintage stuff... I have parents who horde... they were amazed at Ebay and supplied me with a stream of items from the 30, 40, 50, 60, etc which sold very well.
11. I have sold unfinished embroidery kits... people will happily finish them!
12. Toys ... I've sold parts of sets.. such as postman pat figures, rupert figures, noddy etc. amazing prices can be achieved. BUT ALWAYS wash the toys... nothing is worse than sending out some old toy with chocolate biscuit still on it!
13: Nursery goods - pushchairs, cosy toes, brams, cots, etc - there's a steady stream of babies in the world! Always good sellers. Again clean everything!
14: Look on the ebay wanted site for items people are searching for.. maybe you have it ... click here http://pages.ebay.co.uk/wantitnow/
15: Selling as a business.. this is different - there are tax implications so be aware. If you are buying stock.. dont over stock and then have to throw it away. Approach with caution and test out products.
16. Look at completed listings to get an idea of how much items sell for. Don't over price items in desperation... if they are at the right price they will sell.
17. Look at the bidding history and see how items which start at 99p can still achieve great selling prices! We listed an iphone at 99p once.. sold for over £250!
18. Get your postage costs right!
19. Dont list too many in one session as if lots of items sell you will spend your time packaging up and visiting the post office!
20. Build a good relationship with your local post office ladies [chocolates may help as will a smile] sometimes they will allow you to leave parcels with them and the money and they will do the postage throughout the day instead of you holding up the queue in the post office and everyone getting frustrated!
So there are some tips... I will list more as they come to mind. But never underestimate what will sell! Do your research and you will be pleasantly surprised!

fab list! It's amazing what will sell. I have a rule that I try and sell everything before donating or binning it and more times than not it's sold. there is a thread floating around about the craziest items people have sold. you won't know unless you try!0

Morning everyone, how are we all?
I am in tonight with my DD so will start doing some listing. Start the new year as I mean to go on :T
Me too, the kids were meant to be going to my parents yesterday until Sunday but DD1 was quite ill with a high temp and was boiling hot, she slept all day yesterday after going to the docs, she's better today so that is good, am a bit gutted as would have been able to have a good sort out and list more stuff than I'll be able to, they have been to my parents for the last 3 or 4 New Years so will be nice to have them here and be able to give them a New Years kiss while they sleep later.
I'm going to try and get out of debt ASAP for my girls, they deserve the best and I want to be able to give it to them, so my New Years resolution is to not spend any money and just make over payments to my credit cards and try and condense them down to 2 (have 5 at the moment).
Happy New Year and hope everyone's hopes and dreams come true in 2011.Sealed Pot Challenge #0160 -
I'm in tonight but ex is over so I shall be preparing items for listing in between being polite
I'm going to do my best to clear £20k of debt this year. My overdraft is at £70k so I have a little way to go :eek: It's a very good challenge as I currently earn £500 per year mystery shopping so there's plenty of scope to improve cash flow :rotfl:
I shall be joining you tmd on the NY resolution of not spending unless absolutely necessary. I need to get a picture of the kids that I can keep in my purse and by the laptop to remind me of why I am doing this

Well as my first positive action for 2011 I'm going to join in........ I am a great fan of ebay, buy and sell, and I am a dumped on seller too (that is my kids/family/friends say oh, can you sell this for me on ebay......, so I sell for others too.) I am seriously considering keeping a note of what we sell to keep a target going, and also maybe if I can get my act together maybe do enough crafts to start an etsy list too. Great plans.....

TMD - hope your DD is feeling better soon.
I think our kids are the best motivation you can have. I need to stop spending money in the NY. I am debt free but have got to that stage where I just don't notice what I spend or know what is in my bank account. Its a slippery slope back to being in debt. So I want to get back in control and get some positive increasing bank balances happening :TProud to be dealing with my debts - DFW No: 712

Thanks Doodledo she is much better today, a bit pale but back to her normal self, I've never seen her so ill that she has slept all day before, don't like it when they are poorly.
Trying to get OH to take the kids round his sisters, he spoke to her a couple of hours ago and she said about us going round so I said maybe he could take the kids for a few hours while I stay home and tidy up!!! (tidy up and Ebay I mean but won't tell him that). He says he doesn't want to go which is a shame as I could do with tidying up downstairs and sorting their toys out.Sealed Pot Challenge #0160 -
Having a great sort out today. Found 20 Dr Who figures DD wants to get rid of. They seem to sell on ebay so will photograph tomorrow.

think Ive just hit my monthly limit on ebay as it won't let me add anything else to sell - checked again and it says I have to verify my account, which means verifying my paypal and linking the two which will take up to 3 days grrr - anyone else had this problem?Life is what you make it.0
