Can anyone give me any tips for selling clothes on ebay? I have a huuuuuge pile of them that don't fit anymore - some with brand names like Jane Norman, & some that aren't.

I've sold a fair amount of clothes in the past but have always found it a bit hit & miss, some would go for a decent amount & some would go for peanuts when I really thought they'd go for more...any tips greatly appreciated as I really want to get out of debt this year!

tips for selling clothing uhhh make sure to get a good a picture as you can. describe accurately. I always put in measurments eg leg length, length of shirt. thoroughly check them for loose threads, marks so they can be fixed or mentioned in listings. i find mentioning if its a smoke free or smoking home helps. be sure to put the start price at what you would be relatively happy with. clothing can be hit or miss so I tend to start the bidding price based on what the minimum i'd like for it. its gutting to sell something for 99p when it should go for more!
  • Hmm. I think I'll need tips for staying eBay-motivated... got some watchers but no bids and running out of steam a bit with listing stuff.

Come on, people of eBay, put your money where your mouse is.

how many days ago did you list these items... it seems sometimes that there isnt a soul on ebay and then suddenly a few days after you have listed items you get the watchers... some times you get bids without any watchers at all!
make sure you have good photos, good description and are listing in the right category without any spelling mistakes in the title.
also it might be worthwhile looking at what has sold which is similar to your listing to see how they listed the item.

its just a waiting game ... sorry to say! :)

  • Hi mrscmr

I only listed them yesterday, so I'm just being very impatient! Thanks for the tips - will certainly check those things over.

I sold all my 80's Smash Hits and Record Mirrors last year and made over £600. This year (from today, actually, when I've finished lurking on MSE), I will be selling 10 years worth of film magazines. Fim Review, Empire, Film Monthly, Premiere & Photoplay. Unfortunately, the oldest ones were pushed far back in the attic and Squirels have had a nibble :(. I thought about selling these as damaged, but too many people sell Film magazines on ebay, so I'll just sell the good ones and take these chewed ones to my Dr's waiting room.

I'm going to try and list 1 a day for the year, if I make £1 profit on each then thats £365 more than I have at the moment :) 1 a day is realistic for me , my computer runs too slow if I do more :(

Love all the inspirational posts on here :)

  • If you were going to be a business seller, how do you get hold of DVD's and video games at wholesale prices? Ive tried google, but all I've found for DVD's is places where you can buy bundles of really rubbish films! How do you get new releases etc wholesale?

Thanks so much - I don't tend to put the measurements & just stick with "size 8" etc, & I think you're right about putting the start price at something I'd be relatively happy with - it's the ones I was expecting at least a fiver for that only went at barely £1 that were truly gutting! Bring on the next free listing day :)
