I'm really glad to have found this thread. I had always been disorganised but with no kids in a 2 bed new build you couldn't really tell.
I moved into an old, falling apart 3 bed house when my twins were 5 months old...the downstairs is now nothing to shout about but tolerable, but the upstairs looks like How Clean Is Your House. It's not dirty (very, anyway), but I haven't unpacked properly as I don't have a place for things.
Our wardrobe is still in pieces (thanks, OH), so there are adult and baby clothes everywhere. My sons' room is fine (although still decorated in the old owners' purple seahorses), but it contains one wardrobe and 3 chests of drawers, only one of which is used...the rest we need to sell but haven't got around to it.
One of my major reasons for not decluttering is stress...like a lot of people I am sure. I don't know where is the right place to put things so it's almost easier not to face it. I really rarely allow myself to look at it. Then when people come round I have to shut all the upstairs doors.
I have made a start with eBaying things...I have made £40 in the last 2 weeks and got 8 items out of the house and am still going strong.
I'm hoping this thread will help me tackle the rest by letting me see that I'm not the only one. I need to tackle the idea that my house is a mess because I am a bad and useless person...that only makes me less likely to get my life where I want it.
I need to realise my house is actually a mess BECAUSE my self-esteem is so low and I feel I can't face it because I'm bound to fail..and because facing up to it might mean I have to face up to all the other things that are wrong in my life...aka wrong with me.
You've already made £40 on ebay like wow! So you've proven you can do it. Maybe set your OH a project a week, so putting up the wardrobe would be a big help - you could say you'll have a chinese takeaway as a result using some of that £40 - or if he's busy have you got a family member who could help?
I think the home is so important is making us feel better - our surroundings are so important. So start small and stick with us - we'll all be looking out for your progress on here. :ADeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

Good morning :j I so need to return to this challenge
DH announced yesterday that we can get no more into the loft :eek::eek: (unless we put down more boards, which we aren't going to
). We're planning moving in about 5 years, so I'm giving us all notice - declutter, declutter, declutter
I'll be posting my 100 things in 10 days again (my days being weekdays when I'm mostly at home, so 100 nthings in about a month)

mineallmine wrote: »Hello declutters, lurkers and everyone,
Right the get rid of 20 things today/tomorrow mini challenge:-
1. Used up toiletries as part of that challenge, washed out and recycled (recyling)
2. Old t shirt that had shrunk in the tumble drier so a size smaller! (charity)
3. Electrical gadget (charity shop that found out today accepts electricals)
4. Rag bag of old clothes that charity shops often sell to the ragbag man (charity)
5. Bubblewrap packaging (charity - useful for wrapping china and stuff)
A slow start but with a sniffy nose, blocked ears and tiredness its ok :A
How's everyone else getting on? :j
Great to see so much decluttering and new furniture coming in for people. And doesnt it make you feel SO much better even when you accomplish a small bit of decluttering. So this makes perfect sense:-elaine12022 wrote: »OH has just told me maybe losing his job was decluttering (clutter comes from the old English 'clotter' apparently, which means to stagnate)..:)
Clearing the washing mountain (its more hilly now..) has helped us sorted out some clothes:-
6. 7. OH cleared out some more tops (types that in amazement) (charity)
Need to blitz the lounge surfaces, they are like velcro to clutter :rotfl:Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

Long time no chat to everyone.
Under the unenclosed stairs are all the bargains I bought in the sales. These are presents for the year to come. So a bit of a mess with loads for carrier bags and it can stay like that for another few days:eek:
But I have made some in roads in the kitchen. I have tided out and even wipe down the shelves and tops of cupboards. Think I need to sit down :rotfl:
I have done the two wall cupboards and the tall cupboard. Even done the cutlery drawer. Well my husband did. Better not take credit for that. And have a huge stash waiting to go to the charity shop.
This all started because I bought my husband (he likes to bake)some new mixing bowls. And he said something comes in and something goes out.
We did use to that when we where in a one bed flat. But now we are in 3 bed house we don't.
So I think I have started to spring clean already. So still have a larder to sort outand another three under work top cupboards to go.
And then the kitchen is done. Mind you never knew I had some many bags for life
:rotfl:
All the best to everyone. Onwards and upwards.
Yours
