Hi, newbie to the thread!
I have realised I need to de-clutter and get rid of the things I have not used for years, but find it hard as a hoarder to let go of!
I live in a very small one tiny bedroom flat and every time my mum visits she nags me to get rid of my desktop pc and desk as I use my laptop now and desktop pc stopped working the day I got the laptop lol! But I don't want it taken down the recycling tip, firstly as I am worried any cookies on there may reveal personal details (My computer whizz nephew transferred all my stuff from pc to laptop, but we never put a disk in to wipe the system) and secondly I think its a waste to throw it away when it may be of use to someone, but it is 10 years old and the specs are old on it.
I am also ready to get rid of my video as it stopped being able to record since way before the digital switchover tho it does play, but the only videos I have are my beloved Only Fools and Horses videos that I can watch ad free and some are in special tins, tho I am thinking of putting them on ebay this weekend as its free listing, but the VHS OFAH already on there aren't selling. I don't just want to 'dump' them either:(0 -

Hi CathWales, welcome aboard! The quickest way to get the desktop pc gone is to remove the hard drive and then get rid of the rest of the pc tower. OH says you then need to take apart and destroy the hard drive, that's the only way to guarantee the data cannot be accessed.
It's probably worth offering the tower and/or monitor on Freecycle, someone may want it for parts even if it's old!
Haven't been decluttering for a couple of days as I've been ill, but hoping to be back tomorrow with an update!0 -
today decluttered:
72:eek: magazines/comics/journals to recycling - it's one of my new yrs resolutions not to buy anymore magazines (unless there's a seriously good freebie with it)
26 videos bagged up for the charity shop (we don't even have a video player anymore - why were these still in the house????)
3 bags of general rubbish
dumped 1 old ripped backpack
dumped 1 broken plastic trolley
1 binliner of clothes bagged for charity shop
5 handbags & 1 backpack bagged for charity shop
1 exercise mat for charity shop
3 wicker pots/baskets to mum
3 ripped & tatty makeup bags to bin
finally shifted 5 boxes of tiles that had been behind sofa for last 7 years out to shed
total =121
after this I decluttered a few bathbombs into a lovely bath as a reward.
I will declutter
I will declutter
I will declutter

Hi Callisto:)
Thanks for your reply. I have sent my nephew a message and asked him if he can make use of the hard drive as he builds his own pc's. I have asked others I know who work with computers but no-one wants it. I thought about putting it on freecycle and will take a look as i've not sold on there before.
Hope you feel better soon0 -

Hi everyone, please count me in on this. I *thought* I'd had a big declutter at the end of 2009, but last year moved out of family home to live with boyfriend, took LOADS of stuff with me, and there was that much stuff left that my bedroom at home still looked as though it was inhabited!! We then split and I'm now back at home and tripping over the mega amounts of *stuff* everywhere - it's grim.
I did make a start on my toiletries drawer after Christmas by getting rid of anything I won't use/don't actually like so that's one very small area done. Plan on tackling at least the bedside drawers this afternoon...
I know I have a massive pile of paperwork which needs shredding (might borrow the electric shredder from work at the weekend) including bank statements going back to 2003! How long are we meant to keep them for again??Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Having spent yesterday de cluttering my bedroom, or at least one cupboard and a chest of draws lol, the rest of the house is now a tip, bags and boxes to go to the charity shop everywhere and the kitchen looks like a bomb has hit it...plan for the day is to blitz the kitchen this morning, and then tackle the mountain of paperwork that has accumulated on the desk- you cant actually even see the printer at the moment, and I rekon most of it can be thrown!January grocery challenge- £338.09/£350
£365 in 365 days- £25
January NSDs- 9
Money made on ebay- £16.89

Morning all,
Hello all newbies and lurkers
I haven't been doing much decluttering for a few days either so Callisto I'll join you in doing some catching up today. Think my target of getting rid of 100 things in 10 days runs out on Tuesday or Wednesday.
I treated us to a new hoover (the pet Vax one reduced to £40 in Argos) and it's really helped clean the cat/dog fur covered carpets. So that's inspired me a bit to keep things a bit tidier.
Today I'll aim for:
- bedroom
- kitchen
May also try the 15 minute timer way of doing this too. Will report back later.Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!" Less things. Less stuff. More life.Fab thread: Long daily walks

Good morning all! It's free listing day on eBay!
I only skimmed the posts I haven't caught up on but didn't see this mentioned, so thought I'd put it in bold.I took the plunge and completely cleared my bookshelf except for my two favourite cookbooks. Am going to list everything and see if I get any takers. It's close to 30 cookbooks, all bought in the past year or so.
