1 bin bag of rubbish - clear out of cupboard in spare bedroom. (Wardrobe/drawers in same room will be done either tomorrow or Monday).
1 small, but growing pile of items to go to the charity shop. Just books at the moment.
6 books put up for sale on Amazon.
1 picture - which will be added to the charity shop pile.
Another small table found - to be taken to dump/tip over the next day or so.
    More paper shredding done.
Photos posted to a family member.
Garden bin put out yesterday morning, to be emptied by council - which still hasn't been done.

    In
    2 bills
    Cat litter

    Pending
    1 book ordered from Amazon

    All of upstairs got hoovered.
Got a basic sky box (with remote control). Might put on freecycle & see if anyone wants it. Got newer sky box last month.
Shouldn't have to buy any bathroom cleaning products for next 6 months or so - from what I found in spare bedroom cupboard clearout.

Might be worth putting sky box on eBay- I'm sure my oh bought one off eBay to get spare parts. Might be worth checking and seeing if they are selling on there?

At last all christmas stuff back in loft for another year. Have taken bags of silver foil and plastic bottle tops to my daughters school. Have collection of stuff in garage for charity though am considering putting some of it on e-bay.

Next master plan is to sort out very large cupboard full of folders of papers etc collated over last few years. Mostly school stuff, they certainly know how to clog our homes up.

Then its bookcase with pre-school books in (my youngest now 10!)

Any ideas about what to do with bags of shredded paper. Council wont recycle it. I hate throwing anything out that can be reused. :j:j:j

Hello all :) my New Years Resolution has been to throw away or otherwise get rid of a bag of clutter every day in 2011 and so far I have four bags' worth of credit.

    So far this year:

    Out:
    12 large bags of rubbish

Pending out (ready to go except there's nowhere to put it/I've not taken it out yet):
    56 books (so far)
    Small bag of clothes
    Bag of office rubbish
    Box of cardboard recycling
Christmas tree :o (we don't have an organic waste bin and the dropoff point is miles away so we're waiting for someone to be able to drive us and it to the recycling centre)

    In:
    One pair of shoes
    Mail
    Groceries, all necessary

    Pending in:
    Sale online shopping
Christmas gifts for the baby from my aunt
Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76
    Three gifts left to buy

I have advertised it on Fr***ycle before now and people who own rabbits/hamsters etc come and collect it to use as bedding for their pets!

I no longer have a 'cupboard of doom', lol! Here are the before and after photos http://s124.photobucket.com/albums/p37/Sophie14_01/Declutter/

The most amazing thing about the after photo, is that it has three boxes, and a video storage drawer unit, which were outside the cupboard before I sorted it, so I now have a nice empty space in the bedroom, and I can get to my chest of drawers without moving anything!

I have to admit that a lot of the stuff is now in the spare bedroom, pending being sorted, but I knew that if I put it back in the cupboard it wouldn't get sorted, lol! My intention was to sort it on Thursday after work, but my dad had a bit of a crisis with his electric going off, so I had to go round and ring the council, (as he's 85, lives alone, and is not on the phone) and then I waited with him until the electrician came round to sort it, so I didn't have time or the energy to do it when I got back!

While sorting the cupboard I did get rid of a large bag of old greetings cards, about four boxes from old mobile phones which my son got rid of years ago, the box from my kitchen scales, a bag of books for CS, some old paperwork (including a pile of magazines from 1991, lol, I decided I've not read them yet, so I'd better admit that I'm never going to, so they've now gone to recycling), and I've got 4 old mobiles with their boxes to get rid of. I don't think I'll get much, if anything, on Ebay as they are really old, but will try them on the free listing and if they don't go I'll offer them on Freecycle or CS them. Also put a lot of other bits and bobs in for Ebay/CS.

The things I still need to sort include my knitting and craft stuff, which I've not touched for years, but I am going to get back into knitting and sewing this year. I will finish the baby knits I started years ago, and either Ebay or Freecycle/CS them, then I have some material that I will use with some old pillows to make some cushions for my dad, and I also have some other material to find a use for, so the next thing to do is sort out everything I've put in the spare room and use it or lose it, lol!

I'd like to say hi and welcome to all the newbies, starting out can be daunting, but it is so rewarding and even liberating when you start to see a bit of space, and it inspires you to do more, so stick at it and you will get there. Good luck everyone, let's see if we can all see a big change in our homes by the end of the year!

    Hugs
    Sue.

  • Count me in to this one! I'm starting 2011 with a positive frame of mind despite a tough year ahead...I'm due my first baby in 3wks and I'm getting married in June!! Maternity pay sucks and OH is on min wage working 50hrs+ a week in order to bring some money in that we can pay the bills with so anything that helps us keep our heads above water will always be welcome and decluttering could be a good start - decluttered house, decluttered mind and all of that :T

The spare room has so much junk in it that it currently resembles a 3D tetris puzzle that only a member of Mensa can unscramble so I'm sure we can make better use out of the stuff in there!! Either eBay or the local tip/Freecycle will become my new best friend :rotfl:

I also have a new resolution to save 20p pieces this year and I'm hoping that by the time the jar is full there'll be enough in there for a night out or some form of treat....or even pay an unexpected bill! It's nothing massive but it all helps :)

Hope you're all having a good 2011 so far!! xx
No trees were damaged in the posting of this message but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.
  • I have decluttered and sorted the nightwear section also so thats all my wardrobe done.

The bag for charity is now full.

In addition have sorted all my handbags(8 in total). There was so much of junk in them . They are all in different colours and are in good shape so am not parting with any of them.

Dining room will be tackled tomorrow
