Then she (of extremely tidy house) explained, when she is waiting for the kettle to boil she will tidy a kitchen drawer or tidy a shelf in her kitchen cupboard/fridge/freezer etc.
She then went on to explain that she follows the same principle throughout her home, when she puts her ironing away she will tidy a drawer, check her wardrobe etc. When she has showered in the morning she will give the sink/shower a quick wipe.... before she goes to bed she throws daily papers out and when she picks the post up she deals with it, either shred, or if its a bill pin it to the calendar - her bible which she checks every day. Oh and dont forget to make yr bed, up, throw the covers back, shower and before you get dressed make the bed... its a two minute of a job and one which I used to do at tea time when I returned from work....
She explained that once you tidy a drawer, cupboad, shelf etc. or whatever, keep on top of it, even if the rest of the room is a tip, keep that one place tidy and then do another and keep on top both and soon you will have your whole house spick and span and it is so easy to keep it that way................ (I've not reached this point yer - lol!)
Her other advice was, keep yr kitchen sink clean and shiny, it makes the kitchen look tidy (ier) even if theres stuff left on the sides, a nicely made bed makes the bedroom look tidy etc and finally put a wash on everyday and only iron what you absolutely must..... for someone so immaculate I was amazed at this comment but she said if you buy good quality bedding it doesnt need ironing and why iron underwear, pjs towels etc.??
I must admit, I tend to do this - it's painless, and jobs get done on an ongoing basis, which works for me! I like to live in a tidy house ...
I have found a duvet cover and pillowcase for the CS - so that makes 68/100. I have a few bits and bobs to do, then I will start on the paperwork  This is my weakness, I worry that I will need things - but I am determined to clear some stuff out.
DH and DS1 have just loaded the car with stuff for the tip (which was previously sorted out, so I can't add it to my tally!!) so it has now formally left the premises :jEnjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.

I'm sure I joined this last year and got nowhere!
This year, we are planning to move and have about 6 years of hoarded c%&p in our house that has to go. I'm hopeless at throwing things out though. I think that as soon as I chuck something, I'll find a use for it.
I've got baby twins so no time for ebaying. Perhaps freecycle is the way to go - and some ruthless chucking out (can I be ruthless?)
Even my avatar needs decluttering hehe!0 -
Hi everyone, I know I'm a wee bit late but can't remember if I've already joined or not!!! If not, please count me in. Think we'll have more coming into the house this year than going out though as we'll get left items in OHs mums will. She's already starting to give us things. However it does mean we will get some lovely things.
So far this year I have gone through the childrens toys and taken all the ones that they don't play with anymore to a friend whose grandson doesn't have much. Have gone through all the childrens art & craft things and been honest about what we're likely to use - what we're not has gone to the local school. Have gone through all the sheets and towels in the airing cupboard and have pulled out those that we don't need and clothes that are too small for the children to pass on to my friend for her son. The childrens slide that they never use will go to my other friend.
A lot of the things coming from my MIL are family heirlooms and because they're precious I don't really want them on display, inviting people to have a look see what I've got in my house!! So am boxing most of them up (so they stand a chance of surviving my children!) and putting them in the attic. Don't feel like I can get rid of any of them as they're not MY family heirlooms IYSWIM. My brother has just moved into a new house and has nothing (as he had sold most of his things when he went out to Dubai last year!) so have been through the kitchen things to see what I don't need and can pass on to him.
Have started a book swop with my step MIL which is great as it means we don't need to buy so many books (only when they're on offer). We live in different areas of the country so can't pass on a library book to her. Will also suggest to my mum that we do this with magazines and books. In having this clear out, I can honestly say that every single room in the house looks like a bomb has hit! Thank goodness its Saturday (so I can continue tomorrow!). Am definately on for the 365 things in 123 days (2 things minimum a day!).Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -

I do this, with my Mum, my MIL and a couple of my SILs. Eventually, the books end up back in the charity shop and the magazines in my Mum's library magazine box.Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.

Was hoping that DH would help today by going through some of his clothes but no such luck.
Evn so have manged to clear a few more bits and pieces out -
Plastic bottle - recyled
2 bras never worn - c.s.
bag old sticky sweets - bin
broken scissors - bin
4 more books - recycled
3 body lotions - c.s.
2 old toothbrushes - bin
2 pairs old socks - bin
purse (far to bulky) - c.s.
filofax (unwanted present) - c.s
some odd bits of wool - local rest home as some of them do blankets.
cardboard (sure this breeds) - recycled
so two more drawers are sorted and only another 7 to go plus 4 under the bed, then the wardrobe  followed by airing cupboard and large chest which is full of ??????? few bits and pieces on the floor and then bedroom 1 will be sorted. Desperate to decorate it later this year so the more I get rid of the less will have to move when we get round to doing it. Thats the theory anywayMARCH £62.38/2500 -
Just a thought, new and used bras can be donated to charity I use http://www.breasttalk.co.uk/bra-appeal/

I'm ashamed to say that I've not got much done the past few days I do plan on doing some stuff today though.
Just being arguing with hoarding OH as I've just discovered he still has a large collection of simpsons videos even though he has all the simpsons dvd boxsets! We don't even have a video player anymore (I have it away about a month ago as it hadn't been used in years) and even if we did, he would never watch the videos as he has all the episodes on them on boxset. Yet still he wants to keep them because he says "I'v had them for years", when I tell him how ridiculous it is to keep them he switches his arguement to "they might be worth something one day" - I don't believe a load of mass manufactured videos will be worth anything in the future, and even if they were surely it would only be a very small amount so not even worth it. We've had this "it might be worth something one day" debate before over various things I've wanted to get rid of and I think it's not worth keeping something in the hope it might be worth something when you could have valueable living space instead. And where do you draw the line? Really it's surprising sometimes what stuff is now worth something so should we be keeping all sorts of junk as 'insurance' we don't get rid of something that might be worth something in 30 years time?!! I can barely move in this tiny house as it is without keeping a load of stuff in the hope we get a few quid for it one day!0 -
I noticed alot of people are trying to sort out their wardrobes.. I really recommend these coat hangers for saving space in your wardrobe as you can hook them onto each other. Also quite handy for organising as I hook all my vest tops together, all t shirts together ect. I don't think all my clothes would fit in my wardrobe without them. It is a bit of an expense to begin with but worth it in my opinion. Have ordered off this company before with no problems http://www.verynice2.com/h-l-russel-white-plastic-hang-on-hanger-set-of-6.php, also ordered some off amazon in the past but they were much more expensive.0
