The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

Hi All
Well I've unblocked my paper shredder (knitting needle & nail file - every woman's tool box should have one!) & shredded the mountain of c**p that comes thru with our names & addresses. It will add to the compost heap! Looking for the needle I found an underwear set -brand new that doesn't fit me (it did but didn't get round to wearing it) so I'll put it on freecycle. Talking of tools - I bought a plastic sewing box in Lidl a while ago & put in my little hammer, tacks, pliers, duct tape & Wd40 in it so I wouldn't have to use DH's - can this count too?Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Slowed down to day as I've baking to do for a Bridal Open Day - free tomorrow though so should catch up.
Only managed to use up a bag of ribbon scraps decorating cake boxes and to scan documents onto the PC rather than photocopying them and having to stash that somewhere - will that count?
Actually, thinking about it I used up a load of spare cake decorations ... only 9 behind so far then!
**Thanks for note about free listings on Ebay - been waiting for another one of those**

'Why are you just standing there? Do something'
This was what my friend said when I was complaining about the state of my kitchen cupboards.....
Then she (of extremely tidy house) explained, when she is waiting for the kettle to boil she will tidy a kitchen drawer or tidy a shelf in her kitchen cupboard/fridge/freezer etc.
She then went on to explain that she follows the same principle throughout her home, when she puts her ironing away she will tidy a drawer, check her wardrobe etc. When she has showered in the morning she will give the sink/shower a quick wipe.... before she goes to bed she throws daily papers out and when she picks the post up she deals with it, either shred, or if its a bill pin it to the calendar - her bible which she checks every day. Oh and dont forget to make yr bed, up, throw the covers back, shower and before you get dressed make the bed... its a two minute of a job and one which I used to do at tea time when I returned from work....
She explained that once you tidy a drawer, cupboad, shelf etc. or whatever, keep on top of it, even if the rest of the room is a tip, keep that one place tidy and then do another and keep on top both and soon you will have your whole house spick and span and it is so easy to keep it that way................ (I've not reached this point yer - lol!)
Her other advice was, keep yr kitchen sink clean and shiny, it makes the kitchen look tidy (ier) even if theres stuff left on the sides, a nicely made bed makes the bedroom look tidy etc and finally put a wash on everyday and only iron what you absolutely must..... for someone so immaculate I was amazed at this comment but she said if you buy good quality bedding it doesnt need ironing and why iron underwear, pjs towels etc.??
This was many years ago and it has made things easier over the years, I am still a bit of a hoarder, but I declutter regularly and this I think is the answer.
My friend laughs at my attempts to keep on top of things but I am getting there, and still enjoying life because I don't do too much at once...... perhaps thats where my problem lies!!! :rotfl:0 -
I'm turning into a raving Freegle fan, just love the warm-and-fuzzies from giving stuff away. There's always some stuff which is perfectly usable but I think would end up in the bin if I charity-shopped it, and Freeglers wanting it is just great. Plus you meet such nice people!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

We're off outside decluttering today ! There's a lull in the weather, forecast is quite bright here for the whole weekend apparently, so we're going to tackle the greenhouse and sheds. My dad gave DH loads of tools etc and since his shed is completely full , everything got dumped in my shed and the greenhouse.
But, I'll need to get some seeds sown in a few more weeks so it's got to be done while we've got the chance !
Might even persuade DH to get rid of some of his clutter if I'm luckySave £12K challenge 2015 # 173£0.00/£10,0000 -
ive managed to get rid of the last of the rubbish off the patio, its taken me 2 weeks and using next doors bin too but ive done it lol
hoping Mil comes over the weekend as i have a black bag for her to take to charity shop and some tins of hers that had cakes in(which we de-cluttered over xmas)Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0 -
The weather was horrible yesterday so I took it upon myself to go through paperwork and get rid of everything and I mean everything that was not relevant., I had files and paper all over the floor, a cup of tea, a nice fire on, the dog was happy and I did the chore in no time. I feel so self-righteous now! Every time I looked at the pile my heart would sink. Now Ive done it I wonder why I didnt do it before!! As for the rest of the house - well I should really sort out photographs - that can wait as I spend all my time then looking over old family stuff and getting distracted! Wardrobe next I think for the Red Cross. The sun is shining so feel quite motivated today. Wonder how long that will last!!! Oh and the garden could do with a clear out. Frost has clobbered a few pots and there are broken pot bits all over the place.
Onwards and upwards!!!!

This thread has really inspired me to start my declutter properly!
I've sorted five bags of clothes so far for recycling and have an almost empty wardrobe so now I can give favorite things the wardrobe space they deserve AND be able to find them easily!
I've also discovered that I DO NOT need any more handbags lol! Found some I forgot I had and some I probably don't need too! Next step look listing them on ebay!
Thanks for shaming me into making a proper start on a job I've been thinking about for ages! :j0 -
Hi all
Was a very busy first week back at work, so I have to admit that I didn't look at anything when I got home in the evenings. But the weekend is here, hooray!
Already done this morning:
- Tidied up the lounge, tossing/recycling unimportant bits from the week (junk mail, etc)
- Moved the kitchen table into the spare room. Going to see if we can live without it for a week and then put it on Freecycle if the answer is yes.
To do over the weekend:
- Sort out the pots and pans cupboard, it's a right mess!
- Check if the local cardboard recycling bin has been emptied, take at least one trolley load down if it has.
- Unpack my S&G set I picked up from Boots this morning and set aside any bits I won't use for gifting or selling.
- Go through Wii games for selling/trading in. Also considering selling the console as we barely use it.
Edit: All the to do items DONE!Except that I didn't find any S&G items that I didn't want to keep.
