  • I'm about to declutter myself and my family into a tent for the next 2 weeks! I'm hoping that minimal living will inspire me to declutter in major style when we get home, but I'm wondering if I've got it quite right - we're taking so much with us that OH has to go by train, there's no room in the car! We have a people carrier (5 of us) plus we're taking a trailer!
I'll certainly be studying what we use this time, and trimming the list as drastically as I can before our next time away.
Happy decluttering everyone, and I'm looking forward to reading all your successes when I get back:T

Oh gosh. Not been doing well in getting motivated to declutter, however i have to do some work later and can't balance my computer on my desk so think i will have to deal with the clutter on there. I have to also go to the post office and they have a shoe recycling so i will take the bag of shoes there. Desk will need doing by 2.30 so i have enough time to contact people for work. Fingers crossed i can be focussed enough

    Two Ebay parcels
Four plastic takeaway containers given to sister for work lunches

My Mum is doing a car boot sale at the weekend, so I will see what I can find for her to take, on the strict instruction that if it doesn't sell it goes directly to the charity shop - I don't want any of it back!

Only sold 1 out of 20 items this week on Ebay, which was a bit disappointing. I will relist again on the next free listing day!

We have taken a "past it" desk to recycling, we will need to replace this though so on the look out. We also need a coat stand for our newly decorated and decluttered hallway.
Lots more odds and ends have found their way to recycling/tip. The now decluttered dining room is getting a facelift. We are currently stripping the walls which will need skimming (have a friend lined up for the job) so lots of wallpaper being decluttered! We will be painting the walls.

Having a tidying up day today but I'm sure a little decluttering will happen along the way.

Have a good day everyone, and stay safe.

    Had another day off today.

Sorted through all my Guiding stuff today, I run Brownies and Guides, and I've put a pile of paper in recycling, shredded another pile and organised most of the rest of the stuff - need to finish the rest and find homes for it now.

Also trying to keep up with washing and general tidying - checking all our clothes as they go through the system, 1 pair of pants each into textile recycling bag today.

Feel I'm making some progress now.

Oh how I need this thread! - My house is groaning with things we dont want, dont use and dont even know that we have!. About 3 years ago we hired a big skip and had a really good clear out - I think we could probably fill that skip 3 times over now! On the surface the house can look quite presentable sometimes :rotfl:but behind every cupboard and wardrobe door the clutter lurks
So hoping that by listing my delcuttering efforts and achievements on here I stay motivated and end up with a house I can enjoy!

    Aims for today
-take sold ebay parcels to post office
    - clear out DS2 clothes and bin/charity
    - sort out the least scary pile of paperwork currently growing in the hall
    Wish me luck.....

OK. I'm going in............the conservatory that is which has over the years become 'I'll-just-put-it-in-here-for-now-room'. DD2 has shamed me into it as she has blizted her room and cleared out heaps of stuff - 'putting away childish things':( Scarily she has labled every bag - charity shop, recycle, pass on to younger friend, utter rubbish, and Eb*y. :) I need to take a hint I think but not before I sort through her things and squirrel away a few momentos........I know, I know!

    Anyway here goes:eek:

    Welcome and good luck.

My top tip when first starting is to go round and pick up anything that's obviously rubbish/recycling, a pile of old catalogues, empty wine bottle that got shoved to the back of a side, something broken etc.

Then things like paperwork get a pile, sit down with a tv programme on and try and go through it - I had to do the same last week as we'd been really slack and sat with the following:

    1 pile to deal with

    1 pile that needed filing

1 pile to shred (had the shredder plugged in next to me to get through these)

1 pile to recycle (with recycling bin next to me)

I then filed the filing and have made a start with the stuff I need to deal with. One of the things I kept finding were bank statements for my OHs old student account he hardly uses now - still in envelopes - grr!

If you have lots of paperwork do this with each pile a night at a time.

If you don't have a filing system work out what you need to keep then have a look for something suitable. Once you get a system in place it makes a difference if you can keep to it (I do try my best :o)
