Today I took my dad's clean laundry back to him, cleaned the bathroom window frame and the surrounding wall, and in doing so I used up one of my cleaning products and put the empty tub in recycling, emptied a bottle of mouth wash and put the bottle in recycling.

Also got all my ebay stuff off the spare bed, and it's all now stacked neatly in boxes in the spare room, (got bids on 4 items already and watchers on a few other items) and tomorrow I will sort out a bit more stuff in the spare room, or if it's nice I may sort some stuff in the shed instead.

Still only a little bit of de-cluttering from me - bookshelf has finally gone, aswel as 7 dvds and a few other bits and bobs :)

But I now have a new incentive to get me back into de-cluttering..

I remember (several pages back) discussing one of my main fears about having a messy house - if there was a fire and firemen had to come and saw how much of a state it was! Well, it happened last night!

Not long after we'd got into bed, I started to smell smoke, went downstairs to check and there was a very strong smell of smoke down there as well as visible smoke in the air, we checked all possible causes and established it wasn't in our house which meant it was either coming from the take away downstairs or the next door neighbours - it really didn't seem to be coming from downstairs and then we noticed what looked like smoke coming out from under our neighbours roof! There was no one in next door so we had to call the fire brigade. One of them came into the house to smell the smoke, they later established the smoke had been coming from something that got burnt in the takeaway and no fire next door thankfully but because we live above a take away so quite high risk for fires they decided to put 3 new smoke alarms in our house - so, another 3 firemen went in to fit them :embarasse - and the worst part of it all was they fit one in the bedroom which is the worst room in the house! I have been focusing on getting downstairs tidy and nice and neglecting the bedroom because no one apart from us ever goes in there. To make it worse, the bed was unmade ( as we'd just jumped out of it), and the room was a total mess! I felt so embarrassed I couldn't sleep for quite a while after they'd gone - I hate people I know coming in the house, even after I've had 30 mins notice to have a quick tidy so total strangers seeing the messyest areas was my worst nightmare :(

Now I need to get back into it with a vengance I can't have any more incidents like this!

My first task - there is a large storage tub in the bedroom filled with random stuff - to sort out that out and get rid of the storage tub - all they do is provide a place to store random junk!

OMG how awful for you, I know how you feel, I would have been mortified if that happened to me before I got my bedroom under control, lol, as the bedrooms were always the worst bits, and got worse if we had visitors, as all the crap from the rest of the house was hidden in there before they arrived.

Most of my family think I'm totally house-proud, as everything in the ‘public areas’ (i.e. everything except the bedrooms) looks perfect when they visit, (which luckily isn't often, lol!) but they don’t realize that I’ve been frantically running around doing a ‘house doctor’ before they arrive, lol!

Well it's been a beautiful day here today (unusual for my day off, lol!), so I decided to tackle the small shed, where I keep all my decorating stuff and loads of crap.

Sorted out the dust sheets and binned some as they were wrecked, the others I've put in a sealed bag to keep the spiders and their webs out, and because they’re now folded neatly they don’t take up so much room. I've binned some old paint brushes and rollers, and even sorted 2 tins of old paint to go to the tip, probably only a tiny bit in each and has no doubt gone manky anyway as they’ve been in there a while. All the other tins of paint and varnish are now neatly stored in a box, as are all my paintbrushes, paint trays, rollers and wallpapering tools.

I found a bag with some more old bathroom fittings (why do I keep these things? lol!), they were a bit dirty but otherwise not too bad, so I've cleaned them ready to go to CS, and also hooked out an old storage rack, which you hang on the wall to hold foil, kitchen towel and cling film, which wasn’t put back on the wall after we had the kitchen re-fitted about 2 years ago, so that has been cleaned and put in CS box as that won’t be used by us again, and I've just advertised a step stool on freecycle, that's still in the shed for now, but once it's gone I'll have even more room!

When OH came home earlier and saw it, he couldn’t believe how tidy it is in there now, he was very impressed! I’m sure he thinks the real me has been taken over by aliens, because at one time I couldn't throw anything away, as I might need it one day, lol!

A little busy today. Ins yesterday: Desk for DS's room (have given up on the bureau for now). Chair for him to sit on. Sheepskin rug for DD's room, and one for the lounge. New sofa.
Outs today: Old sofa. Some packaging.
Tomorrow I'll be able to take the rest of the packaging to the tip. We ran out of time earlier.
I'll try to get on with a bit more tomorrow after the tip run.

DD cleared & shredded 3 bags of paper from her room this week - collected today by the recycling lorry.
We also ended up with three bags for the charity shop - taken on Saturday.

10 boxes plus assorted items have also left the house - taken to DD's new flat :cool2:

6 black bags, big pile of cardboard plus one airer out for the dustmen today + one normal household bag; I'm thinking I might do a 'declutter 10 things a day' challenge to myself until I've made some noticeable progress, am I mad? :D
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D
