Has your bank closed your account?

I have been successful in reclaiming unfair bank charges on two accounts (one mine, one joint) with the A/L. :j They have written standard letter to inform that 'as we obviously do not accept their terms and conditions they will be closing the accounts'.
I am not too worried over this as I already have an account elsewhere, however I do find it interesting that they are not closing the THIRD account, which I jointly have with them. I did not reclaim bank charges on this account as they were only £25, but I am still the same customer that they have decided they don't want to deal with! If that makes sense!
To me, it just reinforces the fact that they are being petty minded. Some other banks (not all) seem to be taking a more professional approach. :jWhen the 5 red lights go out ............ I'm off racing!

Well i too have opened a parachute acct in anticipation of them closing the acct so it doesn't bother me in that respect. I just feel that they should not be allowed to get away with being able to say, "well we've paid you off, now **** off!". I've had my acct with the A&L from when i was about 2, when my parents opened it for me, and don't see why i should be dictated to about now having to close it.
I'm leaving it with the Ombudsman and we'll see what happens.
I wonder if there'd be any way to get more money from them in respect of compensation, Hmmmmmm!!! :cool:Bank charge Victories 07:MBNA:£205.77.Natwest Credit Card:£250.A&L Bank:£549.68.First Direct:£1183.50.Natwest:£112.33+£200 compo.Marbles CC:£298.Providian CC:£181.Capitol One CC:£388.46.PPI requests:A&L credit card/First Direct loan: At Court stage.Marbles CC:£213.02 refunded.GE Money:£562.34 refunded.First Direct credit card:£747.83 refunded.0 -

Evening all. I first posted this last night on the general discussion page but havent had any help or advice yet. I'm not moaning about in any way as I appreciate theres so many questions for people to answer. Anyway I was thinking maybe I should have posted it here in the first place place so here goes. I should add that I've got the letter with the ammount they owe me all finished and waiting to go and all I'm doing now is waiting for some advice before I send it to them.
Thanks in advance for any answers.
First visit to what looks like a fantastic website (one of which has just been well and trully added to my favorites list!!!). Anyway on to business! We've just got everything ready to send to HSBC (letter and spreadsheet for charges worth £2800 inc interest) but theres two things that I'd like to know, and hopefully someone on here can help.
1. We've got a £2000 O/D which we regulary go into (and obviously over-but not for quite a few months). On the basis this is a type of 'loan' is there any chance, if our claim is successful, that they'll just write off our O/D with our claim money and take away our overdraft facility with no option to have one again?
2. We've decided not to open a parachute account simply on the basis that if they close our account we'll simply go and get another one. Is this really risky and if so why?
Actually I've got a third question. If they agree to pay back our charges can we get any monies in the form of a cheque (so that we can put it into a different account) or does it have to be put directly into our account.
Thanks in advance for any answers as we really appreciate it

Hi there
I am not sure about HSBC but I received a letter from the Halifax stating they were withdrawing my overdraft facility within 14 days, this was after they had received my 1st letter requesting the charges back.
Needless to say I opened a new account straight away with yorkshire, due to having some adverse credit history their readycash account came to the rescue, and I stopped all monies going in and out of the halifax account.
They have now received my letter before court action and can have their overdradft back when they pay what they owe me!0 -

If you are regularly going over your overdraft, it sounds like you may need to look at your finances anyway and see why this is. It may be that if this has affected your credit rating (which it may not have done, as i don't know what the rest of your finances are like), then this may restrict you to what facilities you manage to open in the future, this may mean another bank may not give you an overdraft facility.
Personally, i would open another acct sooner rather than later, just simply so that if they do decide to close your acct (which A&L have just done to me), you already have the other acct there and you don't have to start running round trying to open a new acct at short notice.
I am trying to get my refunds paid to me via cheque, but they do seem reluctant to pay me this way. They tell me that the refunds offered have to be paid into my acct (A&L however, sent me the funds in a cheque). All i would say, is make a point of putting in your letters that "any funds payable to yourself, should go direct to you and not through a third party (if you are dealing with a debt management company) nor into your account."
Good luck. I cant thank you enough for taking the time and effort to reply to my questions. Tbh my partner (Alli-of course!!!) started the ball rolling with this as I'd never heard about it. Of course you get pound-signs in front of your eyes when talking about £2800 (what they owe us) but now we've kind of joined up forces (so to speak!) its becoming clear that its not quite as simple as we first thought and we'll have to factor in a few other things before we send the letter off. As I said though I cant thank you enough for the advice and its certainly given us a pointer as to which way to go.
I'll let you know what we decide and how we get on.
Cheers

QUOTE=dexters_mum;3395884]I have!
Co-Op bank charged me £39 for going 3p overdrawn, I complained in branch, the manager agreed to refund the charge but took my card off me, cut it up and closed my account immediately.
DM[/QUOTE]
Alliance and Leicester are just as bad. I was charged £50 for 80p overdrawn!!! £25 initially, then £25 3 days later. no other debits were made and they didnt even send me a letter to advise. I phoned and they said thay would refund half but i told them to stick it as i was going to claim ALL charges back. Claim is now underway.0 -
which is worse tho, been charged for going slightly overdrawn or been charged for NOT going overdrawn because they blocked the payment?0
