  • I am claiming back charges on two RBS accounts. They total over £3000. My problem is my third student account which has an overdraft of £1000. If i claim the charges on the other two accounts are they likely to close my student account and demand the £1000 back??

    Thanks for any information.

  • They may well do yes. And i would suggest that it may be prudent to pay it off anyway. Another debt cleared....

  • ihave just opened my parachute account to start a claim but iam curious, as this is a hole heap of bum pain "just in case", is there any way for a tally of people who have claimed and then had their accounts closed by the banks and by which banks to be kept to see if the banks are being churlish or abiding by the banking code?
  • They sent a letter on on the 16th Feb to say they were closing my acount. Not a problem, I straight away opened another current account and requested the direct debit switching service.

However, I have since discovered that when the Alliance and Leicester send the letter they also flag the account with an "Account closing" flag. So when the new bank requested my direct debit/standing order details the A&L wouldn't give it to them saying that the account was closed!

The first thing I knew was when I was sent an email to say that my direct debit had failed. Luckily I found out before my mortgage was due and I got charged for a missed payment.

I just want to warn other Allaince and Leicester customers.

I successfully claimed £2200 in May of last year. I was claiming for two accounts with HSBC although I had four. Once I had won they closed all four of my accounts. They left open my ISA and have made no attempt to reclaim my loan.

I am now claiming back my charges from Alliance and Leicester.

I got home today to find the expected letter stating that as i had took my bank to court, they are now closing my account.
I was exptecing this, and have already moved my acct elsewhere, but i am nonetheless annoyed at receiving the letter.
I have spoken to the Financial Ombudsman about this as i feel it has been done in a retalitory manner and they are dealing with my complaint.
Has anyone had any success with this sort of thing??
    Thanks folks.
