RBS
Hi everyone, not sure if I'm looking in the right place but can anyone tell me if RBS are closing down ACs if you claim charges. I have loan and sizeable OD with them and charges are (only!) £750 and I'm wondering whether it's worth the risk in my position?
Any advice most appreciated0 -
....but 2 days ago he received a letter stating that they were going to close his account, which is currently £307 overdrawn, apparently according to the letter they have written to him (not so as confirmed during a telephone conversation, but they had had sent 2 text messages to a wrong mobile number), where do we stand with this it does not seem fair, can we take it to the Financial Ombudsmen? ..
Thanks for any help
Yes you can complain to the FO about this. Closing accounts is being used as an intimidation ploy. Hardly effective if you arent bothered about it closing but it is subject to complaint nonetheless.
The two texts sent to the wrong mobile number intrigues me. Was the wrong number his (some of us use a couple of numbers for different purposes) or someone elses ? If it was someone else's altogether this is a serious breach of confidentiality and also subject to complaint.0 -
2cats - the account is in dispute as you are claiming - therefore the bank will be breaching the banking code which they subscribe to, especially if they default you....the account should be on hold until the dispute is resolved.
oh so YES complain to the FOSLegalBeagles0 -
Thanks for your help Twinkly and esmerellda, I will definitely be complaining to the FOS.
Twinkly the texts went to an old number that he hasn't had for about 2.5 years, what troubles me is that we have had the same house phone number so why didn't they try contacting him that way? I just think they are using it as an excuse to get rid of him.0 -

If he had updated his contact details with the bank and they were aware he could not be contacted on that old number then yes I have to agree with you there and would include that in the complaint. Good luck0 -
I had my account closed last year and Im still paying off an overdraft there (Natwest), can I still claim bank charges?0
