I have been told this morning the the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society will be closing my account in 30 days due to the banks reply of "i am of the opinion that your expectations of the service we offer in relation to your Gold Current account are beyond those which we are reasonably able to provide."

Therefore N/P will be closing in 30 days and have offered 50% of £1700.

I have just successfully claimed back over £700 from the Halifax and they are not closing my account.

    Hi!

Does anyone know whether HBOS (Halifax Bank of Scotland) is closing accounts of customers who are claiming repayment of charges?

A lot of people "argue" on the point? Nonsense.

It is a fundamental right of any business within a capitalist democracy to trade with people they want to or not. That is "freedom" and if you ran your own business would you not want to exercise that right too?

We might not like the banks but they have that freedom too. As I've said before it's not about whether they are right or wrong - personally I wouldn't trade again with anyone who threatened to sue me (rightly or wrongly) so why should they?

Just got this excert from another financial site that might answer the question as to whether banks can legally close your account for reclaiming your bank charges.

The Financial Ombudsman Service, which handles complaints against financial institutions which haven’t been resolved through a company’s internal procedures, is being swamped by new complaints about banks.

Among the latest complaints are that when a customer complains about charges, the bank closes their account - something the FoS has said is simply unacceptable, and could well lead to banks being fined by the Financial Services Authority for breaching its ‘Treat Customers Fairly’ rules.

then click on the link titled banks try to spin the unfair charges story hope this helps

Hi! Just discovered (as a newbie) that there is a separate HBOS thread.

I've read through all the posts there and can find no reference to HBOS closing down accounts.

    Hope I am correct!

The case from which this information has been derived from has previously been mentioned on here. Do a search for the word 'retaliatory' on this forum and you will find an extract of the ruling.

I have requested my statements and they sent me 2 years worth, and I have not been notified that they are going to close my account.

someone kindly suggested that if I go onto my internet banking you can filter by entering the from and too dates to get your statements and print them off your self

    Thanks for that!
