First of all thnks to the help from this site (Nationwide are agreeing to a payment plan on my morgage).
I was in Nationwide on Saturday morning and asked the nice lady on the help desk if Nationwide abided by the Banking code
yes she said in a worried tone, so I asked if I took legal action to reclaim my (unfair) bank charges would they close my account. She checked on the system
not knowing who I was and i quote "Yes as we consider the relationship has broken down". When I queried this the reply was "It wont be because you reclaimed your charges, its because the relationship has broken down". So there you have it folks. Perhaps when they have so few customers they will realise their mistake, unless the authorities stop them doing this.

Waiting for DPA reply from Capital One.
So from the paty of your post that I have emboldened you must be under the impression that the majority of their customers do not conduct theor accounts properly.

Hi ......was wondering if anyone had bother with the Bank of Scotland........did they close anyones account after 1st letter, or after reinbursment ???? Just about to start the ball rolling and a little nervous as not good at confrontational things.

Any help would be great, thx

I have requested my statements and they sent me 2 years worth, and I have not been notified that they are going to close my account.

someone kindly suggested that if I go onto my internet banking you can filter by entering the from and too dates to get your statements and print them off your self
:) If you like what I say please say thanks :)

Depends how far back they go. Nationwide only goes back 15 months. I just had a rummage through all my old stuff and found all my old statements and did a spreadsheet. nearly £1900:eek:
  • I requested all of my 6 year information as advised. Shortly after this request, they advised me that they were drastically REDUCING my overdraft. Can they do this???

They have very quickly put pressure on me to repay this quickly.

    Help

I am currently trying to claim back my sister in laws bank charges from Halifax. They will be enormous because she is really dreadful with money. Ive helped her to apply for a new account just in case Halifax close hers and despite her assuring me that noone would open her one due to bad debts in the past we tried Natwest and were sucussful much to her surprise. I would suggest the people wanting a new account apply for a no frills, no overdraft etc account if they can as most people should be able to open one of these without too much trouble. Obviously if you have a large overdraft and need that facility then it may be more problematic.

Hi, I've just received my 6 years worth of statements for my accounts with First Direct. Using the calculator I am owed just under £2000. The letters are in envelopes waiting to be posted but before I put them in the letter box tomorrow I just thought I'd ask if anyone has ever had their accounts closed by First Direct / HSBC and if so at what stage did they do it?

I'm also wondering about HSBC, I am about to claim against them but also have a managed loan with them, and another current account with First Direct (part of the HSBC group).

I still owe ~£4k on the managed loan, and while I am aware that it is under a seperate credit agreement I am worried about my First Direct account. Am I likely to get my first direct account affected? And if so, can they take any money from it and contribute it towards my managed loan with HSBC? (the account is in credit as I am planning to move house shortly and am using it as my savings fund)

IMO probably coincidence. Banks are big organisations and left hand truly doe not know what right hand is doing, Thre is a likely recession on the way. Read news of what is happening across the Pond. As any business would, banks protect themselves, in their vases by calling in risky overdrafts.
