Got a 4x4? Would you like to put it to good use and confound the green 'antis'?

We all know that certain 4x4's aren't much use for anything more taxing that the school run.....
Not taking the p1ss btw, genuine curiosity question
It depends on the job that requires doing.
Don't forget the volunteers assist the emergency services all yr round, not just when it snows, transporting people and helping out in searches, getting people to remote places to deal with fires for instance.
So even though a 'soft roader', may not be able to get as far as say, a fully tricked up land rover 90, it could however be better than the landy at transporting patients/doctors/the elderly etc in difficult conditions.
As has been said though, there is no substitute for driver ability.
Drivers who think that a '4x4' makes them invincible, tend (in my experience) to get themselves in more bother than someone who realises the limitations of their ability ..... their used to be a saying along the lines of ..... I saw a BMW X3 struggling where 2WD's were managing.
The reason so many people are anti 4x4 is because of all the tvvats in X5, Q7 wannabe gangsta mobiles with bling wheels that are useless in the snow/mud. These sort of people are a real danger to themselves and everyone else in the snow as they think their vehicle can do anything.
There are course plenty of people with 'proper' 4x4 with the right tyres for the job and that also know how to drive them.
I manged to climb a hill in my 2wd that an X5 couldn't get up, and I dont even have winter tyres, although I will admit the tyres are a new all season tyre and has a nice chunky tread pattern. And to be fair to the X5, I'm sure it would have been fine it it wasn't for the bling wheels with summer tyres.
Like many things, its a small minority that give 4x4s a bad name.
EDIT - just to add, while a bling 4x4 isn't my car of choice I have no problem with those who do. Each to their own, live and let live etc.0 -

My mate has recently gone over to the dark side and bought a Shogun, after getting rid of his Disco.
Having been in it, i can see the appeal, but when it went wrong and got a very large garage bill i did'nt feel so jealous.
I know my way around 'older' land rovers so i 'll stick to what i know, its got to be cheaper in the long run!˙ʇuıɹdllɐɯs ǝɥʇ pɐǝɹ sʎɐʍlɐ

I mean.... Some of the modern 4x4's don't even fit in a single parking space!
But Strider - why should they justfy themselves? If they want one and can afford it, why not?0 -

Yes you are right amateurish it is around here anyway,
i spent a couple of weeks driveing the neighbours (ever tried getting shoping for 7 familys in a 4x4) and the midwife about and i am not in a response group.
the reason i was asked by said midwife was she was let down twice due to broken ageing discoverys:( not a good advert.
I hate the greenies with a passion now as twice ive had tyres slashed and now they are crying out for help charity on them i say bring it on:rotfl:0
