Do you not specify a type of 4x4?
We all know that certain 4x4's aren't much use for anything more taxing that the school run.....

Not taking the p1ss btw, genuine curiosity question :)

Actually no. Even a Fiat Panda 4x4 or for that matter any 4x4 car, van or (apologies for the Americanism) "SUV" will obviously fare better in really slippery conditions than it's 2wd counterpart so why shouldn't anything that is a stereotypical 4x4 shopping trolley or school bus? Of course it's not all down to the vehicle, however I have always been a firm believer in if you can't drive it in the weather conditions, whether it's rain or shine leave the car at home.
Near a tree by a river, there's a hole in the ground.
Where an old man of Aran goes around and around....

No, we accept volunteers with all types of vehicle (4 and 2wd). The trick is to teach the drivers the true capablity of their vehicle (either adding or removing confidence ;) )

You're right of course some vehicles are far more capable than others. Some members have some seriously modified vehicles, others (like myself) have no mods - yet ;) and yet others have no intention of modifying their vehicle in any way other than changing the air freshener.

Our members run vehicles from modified Discoverys and Defenders down through standard pick-ups etc. to Subarus, Vitaras, etc. All of them have their use if applied correctly. Controllers hold up to date data on vehicles and training to enable them to fit assignments to members.

We are very much in our infancy (YL formed in 2007) and our training programme is still evolving, but we aim very strongly not to send drivers on calls without at least rudimentary training.
  • Unable to accept donations at present via their paypal.

    Where are you trying mate?
  • Strider could perhaps volunteer as back room staff. The drivers could pick him up and drop him off again, he'd perhaps pick up some pointers and be able to keep the tea flowing at HQ.

Back room staff (Controllers and Call Handlers, etc) can often work from home.
  • My 4x4 was sitting there for 3 weeks and not used because of the snow! did not hear of anyone in my area needing 4x4 help or I would have gladly given them my landrover (heap of junk) - and I would not have wanted it back :rotfl:

http://www.4x4response.info/ the link to paypal isnt accepting payments at the moment, my local one hasnt been set up yet to the extent of some of the others.
  • I'll make some enquiries and get back to you - but thanks for trying :)

I said it last year and i'll say it again this year..... You've had your few days of fun, now get out of the way and move over for the proper cars, suited to the other 98% of the years weather.
