:( Just realised to achieve my first prep for Christmas I need to have two homemade advent calender items done by the end of tomorrow for the hubby. The advent pockets are relatively tiny so any suggestions gratefully received he likes; cooking, wine, beer, fishing, football (although not so much today cause it looks like their best player is being sold or something?!!), poker, hiking.....

Thought I'd share a FAB recipie for malt loaf/fruit cake we you... I kow lots of you liketo bake goodies :) It's so easy to do and is delicious too!

    Ingredients:

1 cup shreddies/malt wheeties/shredded wheat (any brand will do!)
    1 cup milk
1 cup raisins (or mixed dried fruit)
1/2 cup soft brown sugar (original recipie said 1 cup of sugar, but it was way to sweet for me)
    1 cup SR flour

In a bowl put the shreddies, milk, raisins, and sugar... stir and put in the fridge overnight (or for approx 8 hours, until the shreddies have soaked up the milk).

When ready to bake add the flour (mixture will go really thick) and pour into a loaf tin.

Bake on 180 (gas 4) for an hour and 1/4.

Pic and more info on my blog x

tina - love the bags :T Good idea the heat and bond stuff but sadly at the minute I can't stand so anything like that is out of the question. Not sure if I could cut the letters out as nicely as yours

Most crafty things I've done lately have been cards, a little gift bag for a ''my shed'' plaque and a notelet with a funny picture on to cheer up a friend who is going through a rough patch. Not much but about as much as I can manage at the minute,
Got plans for using some freebie fabric with a teddy on for a birthday card for grandson. Birthdays not till June but it'll be an interesting card to do.:)
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Thanks for the recipe Wammy sounds like the weetabix cake my mum used to make us as a healthy alternative when we were young - I'll have to give it a whirl :)

    Hi Laura,

I did something similar a few years back for my mum. Some of them I put vouchers in or lottery tickets. Maybe a few pic and mix shapes? A worm for fishing bait or those beer shaped jelly sweets? How small are the pockets? Would a mini bottle of wine fit in? Or a miniature spirit? Or you could just put a cork in there and have a bottle of wine ready in the fridge or something? Or maybe a magnet if you're making everything or keyring with a pic of you in?

Wow a lot of question marks lol! Sounds like i'm interogating you a bit lol.

  • Think I've found my next challenge - a wallet to go with the bag I'm making for my sister, think I might have to have a practice run on one for myself ;)

Just tried my first attempt at silver clay - eek!!! 7 grams is really tiny - I'm trying to make a heart keyring with my thumb print for the OH I'll post the results once it's finished. I know it's called clay but for some reason I didn't think it would be so clayey?!! Silly I know, but I expected it to be more like fimo... Fingers crossed this time tomorrow I will have a beautiful keyring and all my fingers after using the blow torch ;)
