This consultation seeks your views on the Government‘s proposals to replace Disability Living Allowance (DLA) with a new benefit – Personal Independence Payment.

Disability Alliance will be responding to the consultation. You can feed into our response through our online questionnaire at www.surveymonkey.com/s/dlareform.
This will help us respond in full to the Government’s plans and ensure we cover all your views Thank you for completing our survey.
We would also like to see your answers to the Government’s consultation questions which we have provided online here: www.surveymonkey.com/s/dlareformgovtquestions

Please also see the DWP consultation document online at: www.dwp.gov.uk/consultations/2010/dla-reform.shtml

    from http://www.disabilityalliance.org

I did this survey in the early hours of the morning and it is not hard to complete. Just put down the real cost of being disabled or ill. People can moan all they want. If they do not take part in the consultation it is no good moaning about the outcome afterwards.

I don't like telling people what to do, but I find this posting a waste of time.

Do you honestly think that your comments will make any difference to what has already been decided.
If you have that time to spare or are inclined to believe that your opinion matters, OK.
  • Petrolhead-Thats fine, I just wanted to point out that we are all different, as your original post on the matter didn't seem to take that into account. Hope you manage to find something you can do x

So we have to await our fate until the next election?

It is so wrong to say that the changes will NOT affect the claim. If that is the case why the change?
The changes are to make the system more efficient and streamlined

People like me and others on this thread are dreading what is instore.
Why? if you are a genuine claimant then you have nothing to worry about. The government is not doing this to chuck genuine claimants off DLA

Of course we are going to worry, it's the very nature of being ill or disabled that makes us that way. We have no control over our lives - changes will be made and there is nothing we can do about them.
The 'changes' have not even been revealed yet so why are you worrying about something that, at the moment, is only a government soundbite?

Whether DLA is hard to get or not is immaterial, are you suggesting that the OP keeps the benefit because after the changes it may not be possible to obtain it again?
No, I am suggesting the OP keeps his benefit because he is entitled to it and worthy of it as he was awarded the DLA award in the first place!

DLA is there - for every genuine case. The way the benefit has to be claimed and the pressure put upon the claimant thereafter is intolerable and into the mix we add the unknowing changes for the future.
Exactly my point - 'unknown changes' however my work at the CAB has given us some insight into these new changes and they will be more to do with 'backroom' admin efficiencies and streamlining applications.

If the OP is happy to give it up they should be allowed to do so and not feel pressurised into changing their mind. If they are happier without the benefit then that must come first!

If the OP was happy giving up the benefit then that is his choice - however his post did not come across like that and more to do with being scared about these so-called changes and needless worry.

  • They keep saying this new P I P thing is due to replace DLA in 2013/2014. What does that mean? Is it being introduced in 2013 OR 2014? Is it even being introduced at all?

If they manage to pass laws to change it starting in 2013/2014 people between 16 and 65 will have there claim for DLA reviewed they will start with a form and possibly able asked to get a letter form a doc physio OT nurse or someone who knows about there problems, if that info is enough they will be awarded PIP at the new rates so they could get higher or lower rate mobility and one of the 2 rates of the new care PIP

they have put in the information published the idea is to cut by 20% the bill for DLA and the losers will be people on lower mobility and care they are most at risk

In London, you're never more than 20 feet away from someone telling you you're never more than 20 feet from a rat .
  • Hello

Aren't they also considering reviewing people over 65 as well? I heard that this is on the cards as this category is least likely to inform the DLA people if their condition improves?

Maybe I heard it wrong - so don't you old codgers jump on me!!!
