Nail Varnish Favourites

  • I use No7 for both base and top coat and never had a problem... also a bargain if you can get a £5 off voucher from Boots!
  • Slightly off topic, but can anyone recommend a website for nail design ideas?

I get my nails done once a month (little treat) and am getting bored with the designs in the nail bar.

I'd like some colourful and funky ideas I to dress quite conservatively for work.

If it's nail art designs you're after, these are my favourites:

I am wearing Barry M at the moment which is my favourite budget brand. I was in Boots yesterday and lots of make up brands had 3 for 2 on including Models Own so could have got 3 of their varnishes for £10, I've never used these but they seem to get good reviews, I refrained tho as have enough nail polish to open my own shop just now. I really liked a No7 one which was £7 but decided this was too dear when I didnt really need it but after buying a few other bits I was given a £5 voucher off No7 so then obviously had to go buy it, bargain for £2.

I've finally managed to get hold of some of that Barry M crackle polish and here is the result.

The base colour is a deep emerald green from Collection 2000 ( Can't recall the name). It was very cheap though and horrible to apply with possibly the worst brush I've ever seen. The Barry M went on very easily though and the final result looks a bit like green leopard skin. Perfect for the party tonight.

I bought my sister some last week and can't wait to see what she does with it - she's very artistic with her nail polishes !

I've got that Collection 2000 emerald green, you're right, the brush is awful. Nice colour but hard work to get anything like a decent finish. You did a good job with the Barry M, I struggle to get a consistent crackle with it (small crackles on one nail, big ones on another). And its gone very globby after a couple of uses.
  • the barry m crackle seems to liven up the most rubbishy nail varnish. dd went off the other day with everysingle fingernail a different colour with the crackle over the top...pale lilac and pale green look great.

i finally managed to find the sally hansen insta dry topcoat as reccomended by several of you.. so will try that tomorrow. also had a set of 3 nails inc varnishes leap into my basket in tk maxx :o
but at £11.99 for the 3 i didn't have the heart to kick 'em out :D.
also tring out a new cuticle butter by Lush "lemony flutter" smells yummy but is a bit greasy so prob best for overnight
    Lead us not into temptation...

just tell us where it is and we'll find it....

Are they all as bad ? I've never bought the brand before but I wanted a cheap green nail varnish as it isn't a colour I'm likely to wear again in a hurry. I'm thoroughly put off buying any other colour from them if they are all like this one.

i tried the barryM crackle stuff and it went totally gloopy after 1 use and wouldn't paint on anymore. So not impressed by that.
