That is really, really helpful. Makes me see that finding the original RGI is not as crucial as I first thought.

It will not involve opening a boiler.

It will simply mean undoing a few screws on the bit that needs replacing.

had a RF reciever go and a condensate pipe freeze last year :

Took off the receivers and hard wired it on- and controlled by timer & on/off option on boiler ..( to avoid need to source part at short notice/high cost) then ordered a new part cost about £35 .. fitted hassle free

Condensate pipe - re-routed into a 20l bottle and emptied every few days until cold snap ended

  • Hi, Silvercar: I remember posting on your thread last year about a boiler for your rental property...what did you choose in the end as it doesn't say in this thread?

I wondered if someone would remember and link back.:)

Now that the link has been made let me say that the RGI who I actually found from that thread was excellent. To be fair the installation was faultless and we've had no problems between now and then. Now when we did have a problem my first port of call was to him, but he can't be found. Not that the freezing weather was his fault, just that it would have been nice to speak to someone who knows the installation and knows what parts were used.

Went with a combi - Baxi Duotec 28HE.
