gas safe registered installer no longer registered

Advice please. I had a boiler installed by a gas safe registered installer summer 2009. All working, installed and certified. Now a problem has developed, I've had Baxi out to look at it and they have replaced one part but they say there is a non standard part that also needs to be replaced and they won't touch it. It should still be under warranty.
I tried contacting the installer but no luck, so I searched the gas safe register for new contact details and can't find him.
If I do manage to track him down, presumably he can't work on the boiler as he is no longer registered. So where do I go in replacing a part under warranty. There is no branding on the part, so I don't know the manufacturer.

What part are we talking about here?
You could try another installer, but he would probably charge for his time, but not for the part.0 -

Don't know the exact part - something to do with the infra red control? At the moment Baxi have managed to get the boiler working on manual for heating and hot water, thank goodness, but its not receiving instruction from the thermostat.
The problem is I haven't as yet managed to get hold of the installer and I suspect he is no longer working in this area and hence has allowed his registration to lapse. But the installer would be the only one who knows the make of the thermostat and where to get a spare part for it. Plus I really shouldn't have to pay if its under warranty, just because the installer has decided to allow his registration to lapse.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Three possibilities here.
Baxi pays ...... they did not install , so why should they ...is a non standard part
Installer pays , yes but he has done a runner ???
You pay ! Guessing thats going to be the case .0 -
Sounds like the RF receiver unit. What does non standard mean? Were the instructions not left with you? if so, you could call the supplier / manufacturer.
What part needed to be replaced on the boiler? did the two failures happen simultaneously?
Also, if the job was done in the summer of 2009 what was the warranty offered on the job?0 -

Not part of the boiler.Not Again0 -
Post up a picture of the thermostat and the part concerned..someone might recognise it. Must be some markings somewhere (perhaps on the back). Have you tried replacing the batteries in the thermostat?0

I agree, in a perfect world you shouldn't have to pay, but as your installer has gone awol then your options are limited.
The product should still be under warranty though. Most thermostats/receivers have a sticker on the back with the end of warranty date on it.
You should be able to return this direct to the manufacturer for replacement.0 -

Thanks for your response.
Two year warranty.
There was a problem with the condenser pipe outlet. Basically it feeds into the outside guttering which froze and the water backed up into the boiler. The boiler has now been drained and some part replaced by Baxi but they are saying that this infra red transmitter unit has also failed and isn't theirs and to contact the installer who should put it right under warranty.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I would look for the part myself & replace it if I was you.
If it is indeed faulty because engineers do get it wrong sometimes. Not Again0 -
If you do not have the original docs (which you should) then, as suggested before, try and post a photo of both the transmitter and receiver. If it's only 18 months old then it should be quite easy to track down - there are only a finite amount of these on the market.0
