You dont ned to spend £70 on a sony dongle, buy a netgear dongle or a wireless plugin, or ever a Rj45 cable for a few £££sss on ebay:D

Sorry to doubt you - but are you absolutely 100% sure? I was led to believe (after reading a review on Amazon) that you needed a Sony dongle.

It's great if that's not the case - as I have just taken delivery of a 40" Sony today!

Ordered mine on the 27/12/10 received phone call from couriers today to say the earliest it could be delivered would be 12/1/11(all day) not impressed, Phoned customer services unable to bring delivery forward. very disappointed with John Lewis 16 days from time of order to deliver TV. Bought a TV from Curry's online 6 weeks ago delivered in 2 day's. :(

When I bought mine early on the 26th December I could pick a date I wanted and the earliest they could give me was the 5th January. I didn't think that was too bad considering there are 3 days of bank holidays and 3 days worth of weekends in there. I'm happy with it knowing that I got a 5 year guarantee that I would have had to have paid additionally for elsewhere.

I've had a couple of couriers round recently who told me that are still clearing backlogs from the snow pre-Christmas - maybe that is the reason?

My husband did research before buying the Sony dongle and came to the conclusion that it wasn't easy to get anything to work that wasn't Sony. But I will stand corrected if someone knows different.
Ours is bought now so it doesn't make any difference.

I am in the process of researching the issue but as I understand it you can buy "Homeplugs" from a number of manufacturers.

See below link to video, at 1 minute things are explained.

Basically they use the internal wiring in your house.

Hook router via ethernet cable to one homeplug and plug into wall.
That homeplug sends internet signals from the router through your homes wiring.
Plug a homeplug in next to the TV that needs the internet connection and run an ethernet cable from the homeplug to the TV.

That's it in simple terms, however I believe you can also get homeplugs that transmit WiFi, so in the room with the TV hooked up to a homeplug with an ethernet cable, if the homeplug transmitted WiFi it would also provide a strong WiFi signal in the room. :)

I have three rooms that I plan to have homeplugs in to hook up to two TV's and a PS3 and thus I am looking into the best option. :) HTH

We have reached the same conclusion as Tojo - this looks like the cheapest solution. As far as I could see from looking on various techy forums the Sony dongle would be required otherwise and doesn't appear to be discounted much anywhere.

Simple solution to this - cancel the order with JL and buy from Curry's

I have wi-fi around the house, but just bought 2 home plugs from Currys to give my daughter a better signal for her laptop in her bedroom. Works perfectly with no problems - costs about £80 though, so not cheap but compared to a wi-fi dongle it's not too bad. She is getting about 15Meg throughput, so very pleased with it.

That's an excellent price considering they deliver, install and give you 5 years warranty.
