Happy New Year all!! Hope 2011 is a good one for everyone.

I have finally resurfaced after almost 2 weeks of feeling unwell - still have no energy, but I'm trying really hard to motivate myself. Now I have to give OH a kick in the rear because he's in a very feeling-sorry-for-himself kind of mood.

But...he's spent some time banging around in the kitchen and it's now almost spotless. The fridge has been sorted out and the DW is on it's 3rd run (best not to ask...). There was a lot of muttering, though, so perhaps he has realised quite what an uphill struggle it is when there's only one person doing the tidying...:D

I'd better go and rescue the dinner now!

    Take care
    D

Soappie ((huge hugs)) no matter how good a friend a life snatched too soon is always hard x

With the tree thing I have to confess I have never spent more than £10 on a fake tree I don't think. Never paid more than £2 for a decoration. I buy just before Christmas.

Terrible but I really fancy a Chinese takeaway, think it's with everyone on FB going on about it last night and we don't have a NYE treat

Edit compromised with a curry takeaway for DS1s birthday as I don't want to do anything on tr evening of his birthday with it being school the next day. Chatted with him about it and instead of the meal out that we usually do getting it delivered and watching a movie. Think he knows himself he will be anxious the day before school restarts.
One day I might be more organised...........

    Hi again,

Have been over to Mums. Roads were really quiet so the journey didn't take too long.
She was pleased to see us, and we had a nice lunch there. She gave us 3 cardboard boxes of stuff for the charity shop as she doesn't drive, and wanted us to drop them off. I've only been through 2 boxes so far, and am keeping some nice bits of tat! :D DH is apoplectic
    :rotfl:

I have had the washing machine on, cos DH went cycling this morning and needs stuff for tomorrow. He cycled 3400 miles [STRIKE]this[/STRIKE] last year!

I must start doing some exercise and eating less. I've been on the scales and oh my! Heaviest I have ever been. Hey ho.....

I am going to put the WM on again, then will think about dinner - just leftovers really. Then I'm going to start on my listy lists.

House is looking ok - it's just the study that is a tip, mostly my mess. I think I will do my 3 things again........everytime I go in there, find a home for just 3 things. :T

    ETA Soappie - hugs

    :hello:Happy New Year!!:hello:
Just wanted to post on 1.1.11!!!:D

Rather disturbed night, with DS2 coming in about 2.30, then woke up again about an hour later, and had to check whether DS1 was home - he stayed at a friend's - I think. I had a call to pick him up around midday, and he looked appalling. He's been asleep ever since, totally missed lunch!

I seem to have spent all day cooking, roast beef etc and profiteroles with chocolate sauce, and more turkey stock.

Very little else done, although I have caught up with the thread, and wandered around some of the other boards. Fancy doing some knitting, but am too idle to go and find a)wool b) needles c) pattern...

Love and hugs, especially for toots, lady-liberty and lamewolf.

    hugs soappie

soappie huge hugs for you and your friends family. It is a horrible thing and always seems even worse this time of year.

I am sure you all write a lot about washing but it seems like loads more to me today.:rotfl::rotfl:

Well we can't wash, flush or shower. But we did an emergency load in a friend's holiday cottage yesterday and I have been nipping over there to use the loo. Much healthier than bucket flushing. If there is a bad smell it may be coming from this house:D:o

At this rate DSs will be taking dirty washing back to uni. :rotfl::rotfl: Tables turned :D

I may be looking for cleaning tips using frugal quantities of water next week. Or maybe good fortune will shine on us.

Soappie (((HUGS))) Even if it's not a close friend, the news still comes as a punch in the gut, imho.

I've done washing today - bedlinen. Can't have that floating around waiting to be done, we don't have sufficient space!:D

Does anyone have a copy of or a link to the things you should have in a car emergency kit? I want to check I've got everything and then I can check off another of my 101 in 1001 :D I've not really worried about one before having never had much snow, etc. down here but, after the weather last month, I think it may now be necessary :(

After doing my back in before Xmas, have spent a few days off the superstrong painkillers now. Still saying the wrong words when talking, assume it must be because I stopped them a bit too abruptly than I'm supposed to.

Went and bought laminate for downstairs yesterday, then struggled through the hordes of Mr A shoppers for the first time in years. Took advantage of lots of reductions and spent much less than usual :)

Did bit of cleaning - DD now has the desk she wanted for homework, and I was pleased to find her laptop in the drawer instead of on the floor :D

Other than that, endured No Country For Old Men last night. If I wanted a lesson in film making, I would be attending classes in it - not watching it on TV. Heard lots of bangs at midnight, but nothing else. Let DD stay up, but she spent the strike of midnight on facebook. Then slept really late today.

Flicked around the bathrooms and cringed at the cracks from the house settling :( I know it's safe but they look horrid.

Dusted over the non working cooker - it wasn't the bulb, so is either the installation or the oven itself. The consumer box is sectioned off into upstairs, downstairs and ring main, which is why I lost lights (and doorbell & smoke alarms) when it tripped. Getting bored with cooking via hobs, microwave, steamer and foreman grill (I am so spoiled - the only remaining alternative is the barbeque!). I just want to shove something in the oven and have it come out thirty minutes later. Or just cheese on toast would be nice.

And whilst cleaning up this morning's furball collection, I found lots of water seeping out from where the plumbing for the boiler is boxed in

Tried the emergency repair line, didn't get much help but an hour later, the boss of the construction company turned up again. He couldn't fix the leak straight away, but has slowed it to weeping (and the heating works now) and will be back tomorrow, when he is also going to have a look at the cooker to see if it is an installation or warranty issue. He is going to get so fed up with me :D.

Realised afterwards that The Bloke was so busy worrying about the leak that the time his Dad died 3 years ago went by without being noticed/thought about. He's just come back from the shops with shish kebabs, ice cream and cheesecake, so he's thinking about it now, as this is his sort of comfort food.

Just relocated old beside table into DD's room for the printer to stand on. It looks tatty (it's the only old thing in her room as she had everything from new when we moved in), but is tucked into the corner and can be painted when I get around to it.

On a lighter (and drier) note, I have contacted a fairly local jazz club that has open jam sessions and workshops on performance with a view to going along. Seeing as the last time I performed in public (other than when some fool put a karaoke microphone in my hand at a works do :)) would probably have been when I was about 11 (and wanting to sound like Bix Beiderbecke when they wanted the music to sound at least a bit like Beethoven meant it to ) and the cat has been my main audience ever since, I'm out of practice. Moreover, I've never played bass in a group before, as I originally played trumpet, so not used to tying into the drummer's patterns - never needed to pay attention to the drummer before now :D.

Hopefully the social side of it will help, as I am seriously feeling isolated in the new house.

If I can summon up the bottle to go, the sessions start in about 10 days.

ETA: sorry I don't really go in for a big fuss at New Year, but thanks for your kind words. You're all lovely, even the bossiest of genius leaders. I now have an image of you seeing us like this, Piggers - Megamind-Meet-Minion-Featurette-Official-HD.jpg

And I received my christmas cards today. Thanks, Royal Mail! More importantly, thanks everyone!

Sorry this is so long, too much wibbling!!!!!!
