Niiice.. apparently we don't have a chain ready to exchange since the people buying the vacant house at the top of the chain don't actually have their mortgage finalised. Apparently this is being faxed to their solicitor on Thursday and we 'should' be exchanging on Friday, with Nov 30th being the date for completion.
I'm almost tempted to look for a new property0 -
Good to know it's not just us. Our Solicitor has cleared off on holiday for three weeks and didn't tell us. Apparently his Secretary is dealing with things unless it is 'urgent' when a locum will deal with it. Urgent - I would say it was urgent. Was suppossed to complete on the 17th November. Haven't even exchanged yet. We hear nothing all week and then we get calls from our estate agents at 5.55 pm two fridays in a row. What's the point of calling at that time when you can't do anything about their queries. No one calls back etc etc. You know the score. As from tomorrow I'm going to call the solicitors until it is sorted - if my nerves can stand it.0

I'm crossing all my fingers... the estate agent called to say the last people in the chain had finalised their mortgage and were going to sign papers at their solicitors, hoping to exchange between now and 3pm today...0

We just exchanged!! After a final hurdle at the end (last vendors wanted to move the already-agreed completion date forward by a week, we couldn't) it's all done. We move in 2 1/2 weeks time

Thanks everyone, this thread has been a great support - it's nice having a place to spell out one's thoughts and angsts. I'm so glad I had a good solicitor through this and the support of family and friends; it's quite traumatic really!
Good luck to everyone else who's 'waiting for something to happen' - hold your nerve and pester those sols/estate agents.0
