  • There appears to be a communication breakdown in our chain. On Monday, the estate agent/our solicitor said that one of the solicitors up the chain was waiting for an enquiry to come back about a search. On wednesday, my solicitor told me that this had come back and we would be 'exchanging in a day or two'. I just phoned him and said that he was waiting for one of the other solicitors to talk to him... i really feel that someone is stalling this, as it feels like we've all been ready to exchange for 2 weeks.

On top of this, i just had a little row with my gf because I said I felt uncomfortable living at her parents for any long period of time. This is only because i'm 26, a 'fully independant adult' who's been renting since 18, whilst she's not left home and she's 25.

I just wanna scream but i'm in a rather busy office

UPDATE: Turns out the problem is because the people i'm buying from want to buy the blinds from the house they are buying for 100 quid. That is the cause of my stress. Agggh. I have patched things up with gf, so yay. Estate agent says he hopes for exchange this afternoon.

In my experience, the best approach is to hassle them twice a week, but try to spend the rest of your life as if you weren't moving i.e. life goes on. If you don't do this, and it's a long move, you can make yourself ill from the stress of it.

  • I'd love to be able to pretend I'm not moving.. but i'm a worrier.

It's nearly 4pm.. I want to go home and have a drink, but i'm crossing my fingers. I'm quite annoyed at the people i'm buying from for holding up exchange with such a petty query. This is from the idiots who think leaving a 20 year old baby beling oven is 'doing us a favour'

What a day! I have terrible food poisioning! And there have been problems with exchange in that the top of the chain, have held everyone to ransom, that if we dont move on the day that they want then, they will pull out. We all want mid november and they want the 30th or nothing. Anyway, one peron is out of the country on the 30th so we have proposed the 29th, but they wouldnt even concede to that, they were still happy to pull out. Their house was downvalued by 10k and needed 10k of work and they wouldnt budge, and their buyers agreed to it! Some people are unreal!

Any way we have at last EXCHANGED :j

Good luck to everyone else on this journey!

    Well done pawpurrs.
How can they expect to move if someone is out of the country that day, that is so unrealistic.
If it were me away,I would say pull out then and see if they did??!!!
I hate people like that it is supposed to be a mutual agreement isn't it??

    Anyway well done

Still nothing happening with our sale! Vendor went and sign all the paperwork on friday but we were told she had done that on the 9th October so someone is lying somewhere. Still no title deeds, she has chased the company but they guy was on holiday on Friday but his pa did confirm they had been requested (well I hope so as vendors solicitor requested them a month ago)!!!!!! Fingers crossed our vendor will chase the company today but i'm not holding out she doens't seem that bothered
House purchase completed 6th December whole process took 4 months.

Hang in there everyone it is worth it
  • Still waiting for the morons above us in the chain to hear back about their blinds... I'm gonna tell their estate agent that their faffing about now means me and my gf won't have a sofa before Xmas. Although we've not exchanged, we've had to order a bed from M&S because we had a superb deal running out tomorrow (40% off a bed!!) - I hope we complete within 6 weeks or I'm gonna have a bed and no house.

I am absolutely furious now, this is such a trivial matter - we haven't even talked about completion dates yet. I'm homeless in 13 days. Is there anything a FTBer can do to put pressure on the chain above to move?

ringo - if you are currently renting, you cannot be forced to leave your property until your landlord has a court order. May i suggest that you talk to him/her and explain your predicatment re completion, and suggest that you stay on and for another month - much less stressful that way, even if you end up having paid a few days/weeks more rent, at least you can move in over a few days and not have the full stress of moving out and then moving into the new place on the same day.
  • No plans on becoming a squatter - I'm moving to my gf's parents house for a few weeks until completion. I have an aversion to living with parents (my own or otherwise) even though I get on well with hers and they treat me like a son.

Its more the administration thats a pain..i'm going to have to get my mail redirected twice ( i can't have my bank statements / payslips going to my old address ).

Update: just spoke to estate agent, the solicitors are going to drop the blinds question tomorrow if they don't hear back an answer from the sol's up the chain. EA is 'confident' of exchange tomorrow. He said that 2 weeks ago though.
