How were your handmade presents received??

As title says, how were your handmade presents receieved. Evweryone here loved the presents I made and the fleece blankets I appliqued were a huge hit. 3 of our young grandchildren were running around using them as capes and then they were hiding from monsters under them.

I ran out of time to make these slippers for this year so hopefully I will make them for next year. http://www.google.co.uk/images?rlz=1T4ADRA_enGB373GB373&q=felted+french+slippers+press&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1327&bih=509 (French Press Slippers)

  • These slippers look lovely!

I didn't do a handmade Christmas this year (living abroad) however I fully intend to do so for next year and so will be keeping a regular eye on this forum for inspiration.

    Hiya sethsgran..

Well i saw your post and i just had to write something in reply..

I made two towel cakes, one for my parents and one for my in-laws. The reactions were polar opposites! was my first time ever making them and i had taken inspiration from the threads on here...

Was with my parents on Xmas day and they absolutely loved theirs, they hadn't seen a towel cake before and were thrilled with it. They didn't even want to unwrap the cellophane ! but when I finally told them they should so they can see the actual gift better, they put it on the table and as far as i know they still haven't undone the cake :)

As for the inlaws... well, we saw them yesterday.... pffft... they cut open the cello, (no comment on the wrapping) saw it and said "oh that's nice" then proceeded to unroll the towels. My husband saw their complete and total lack of reaction and said... "she made it herself.."
response was: "oh really, yes, very nice"

grrr?! well now I know not to bother with handmade for them anymore! It took me so long getting it to look right, and get the ribbons and bows on nice, plus I co-ordinated each set with a bottle of wine in the middle and a matching tea light set etc.. Overall must've spent about £30 or £35 per cake.. so a bit more appreciation would've been nice!!!

I should've known really.. they're the sort who give us our xmas presents in January... (after the sales) and it's always cheap tat, no thought or consideration as to like and dislikes, just whatever happens to be cheap at the time. If they didn't want to spend the money I would much rather they give nothing but the way they spend on themselves is horrendous, lol, new cars, tvs, phones etc etc.

I'll never ever forget The first xmas present they ever gave me, when hubby and i got together. It was a... (are you ready for this?) A serrated kitchen knife. weird or what!! Hubby was so embarrassed!! Lol!

Turia I think I would be going to the end of sales Sale if they were my in laws. So glad your parents enjoyed your gifts. I love homemade presents. I am already planning my gift tags as my DIL gave us a lovely gift with a fabulous tag, simple buff luggage label decorated with red ribbon and bells.

  • my only hand made gifts were pints of socks for my dad my daughters dad and a set for my BF they went down well far better than the price for the parts would have warranted it actually made my ex laugh as he always tells DD to save her money and just buy him socks so was a nice wee nod not like him to appreciate anything i do lol

I had a couple of pots of gold left from the Christmas fairs I did and gave them to my daughter and SIL. They were really pleased with them.

Well i done all my mindees a box, with snowman soup, and all the xmas sweets, snowballs, reindeer noses, i then made cupcake socks, and a sock monkey for each of them, and a pair of pjs, i have had 2 texts so far saying the loved the boxes, i also made one parents whom i have minded for for 6 years a towel cake, i went with the pamper theme, chocs, face mask etc and in one of the sides put a sweetie charm bracelet i had made, she loved it, also did not want to unwrap it :-)

My own teenage dd's also asked me to do them cupcake socks for their friends, i was more pleased i had made something they were happy to share with their friends as you know what teenage kids can be like ;)

Lipgloss I love that site too and I too have added it to my faves.

So glad your "handmades" went down well, however big or small it was.

Keep crafting everyone, we need to pass these skills/ideas on to the younger ones.
