One last question cos I'm dying to get started on this kingfisher - can you mix Anchor and DMC threads as I have some of the DMC threads but local shop only sells Anchor or is it best to stick to one or the other? xx

The general concensus is to stick with the same brand for each project but I do tend to mix them and don't really notice.

I bought about 100 Anchor threads off eBay when I took up stitching again, but my local shop only sells DMC. I then found that I liked DMC more than Anchor. They're slightly more shiny and easier to work with, I find.

wondered if there'd be much difference if I replaced the Anchor with DMC?

I just use whatever I have. My cut-thru is mainly DMC from my stash..... however it also has anchor if i didn't have the DMC.

I think it MAY look a bit off if you are doing a large block of 1 colour and change threads half way through IYSWIM as the shades may be slightly different. HOWEVER I ran out of 1 colour of DMC part way through and can only buy Anchor locally (tooo impatient to order DMC), I figured it won't affect the final design too much as it is being used on 'natural' areas (i.e. stones, sand) which would be different shades in real life anyway.

check out the 1st page of this thread for links to conversion websites.

I much prefer DMC tho as I find anchor feels thicker and bulkier.

Well, I seem to have deleted the pic of week one, so this is a pic of where I was up to this morning.

    th_photo.jpg

Not a great deal done, but I didn't get as much stitching time on holiday as I would've liked. I've started in the middle, so the red bit is the throne in the centre of the picture.

I've been stitching with one strand of thread doubled over & using the loop start, but I find the end bit of thread is getting quite fine and I'm wasting more than I do when stitching with DMC. Has anyone else noticed this when using Madeira thread?

    Evening everyone!

I'm onto the last A4 page of my UFO and its nearly all sky ... means I should finish quicker than I thought!

Haven't took another pic yet as I'm just going to wait until its all done and then take a final shot. Decided I'm going to do all my housework tonight then I can just stitch all weekend :j

Hope you all have a productive day tomorrow while the site is down and I'm looking forward to the updates next week xx
  • Good to see your SAL progress Ruth_honey, I've hardly done any of my rocket either. I've just posted a picture to the flickr thread to show the little start I've made. I can't believe how slowly I'm going with it, but I'm hoping I'll get a lot done next week when I'll have time to stitch during the day.

Hope you're feeling a bit happier soon nannon.

Eyup - have been away for a week and you lot fill up the entire thread - has staken me ages to read through and nosey at all the lovely stitching. Have been a good girl and not been on here or on facebook (much) and have 3 tv progs to watch this weekend to catch up. Have got a lot of school work done but still got loads (but they do pay me so mustn't grumble:p)

Off for my stitchy day tomorrow after we finally pick up dh's new car:j. Have also cut our phone direct debit in half and managed to re-jiggle some finances so we have been able to book a week away in half term (Feb) in a house in the peak district (near my olds) so they are going to stay over with us for a night or two as well. Am doing fairly well on the chapel window I'm stitching and I might even get that part finished as planned!

  • Hi

I am new to this thread and looking for some help, I have decided for Mothers day to cross stitch a knitting needle case, and sewing case but can I find anything on the internet which is cross stitch, does anyone know where I could find a pattern on how to make it I already have the cross stitch design in my head.

    Any help is gratefully received.
