    Hi ladies.

I got my mice on their bike done! There wasn't much backstitching but it took way longer than I thought it would to get done.....well actually it might have been a bit quicker had I not taken the fabric off the frame, tidied everything away then realised I hadn't backstitched the flowers near the front wheel :rotfl:
I had to get everything out again to finish it because there was no way I was going to leave it till today.

    Anyway, here's the finished piece...

Welcome nannon, It's never too late to join! :j

I use a scroll frame and wouldn't want to be without it.

Louise that is lovely. It must be good to look at the before picture and see how much you've done. Do you always mark out the grids on the canvas? I'd never even thought of it until I came onto this thread,it's amazing how many good ideas I'm picking up from here already!

    Neither had I!!
I always do it now, it makes stitching SO much easier (and faster), I dunno why everyone isn't converted yet :rotfl::rotfl:

My challenge this year is to get cracking on a sampler I have comissioned of the Great Atuin which is from Discworld. I think it will be a 2012 finisher but I would like to make a good start! It's rather large even at 18ct and has 96 colours!
I am also thinking of trying a frame for tension due to it's size instead of a hoop. I have never used one.. What are they like?

Do you happen to have any pics of it to share? (I speak for us all when I say we're a nosey bunch) :D

Totally recommend getting a frame, I have a clip lap frame and it's great, two handed stitching gets the job done faster plus it stopped my wrist 'clicking' with the constant twisting motion one handed stitching causes.

That's a good idea, I'm just nervous of ruining it. I've only ever used frames that are big enough for my whole piece to be completed before. I've also never dared to wash a piece of stitching. How do you do it without ruining it? Do you use washing powder or just hot water?
Me personally, I pop it into my washing machine on a cold handwash cycle with a bit of washing powder and conditioner and it comes out fine. I'd recommend oversewing the edges of your work first (or a zig-zag stitch on a sewing machine) so that it doesn't fray in the machine.

I'm sure the other ladies here have other suggestions if you don't feel like braving the machine.

*louise* That's beautiful, it's going to look so detailed when it's finished.

Hubby bought a mag on Fri, £3.99!!, I was horrified, on Sunday I bought 36 patterns, a card x stitch book, a yarn craft book and a general craft book, plus some loose mags for £5 from Cheapcycle. I'm hoping they'll keep him away from the mag stands for a while.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

    Hi all

Is it too late to join?

I've been cross stitching for many years.. I love doing "odd" or slightly out there pieces for people (with a few classics thrown in now and again). With work and things I dont find myself enough time to stitch so I have vowed to stitch more in 2011.:T
I do a lot of cross stitch from my own designs using a lady who does photo conversions to turn them into charts and full kits. I've been using her for the best part of 3 years now and proud to say she has become a good friend. I also never fail to surprise her with my odd ideas!)
