not a stitching post, sorry but just gotta say, i just had an aweful moment when i went to checkout at Ama*on and my much coveted Red Moleskine diary was suddenly out of stock! i'd waited till the new year to save money (12quid down to 5.58!!), and was so gutted when it sold from under me
. But, i ran to Martin's Mega Shop Bot, typed in the details.... and hopefully have bought it for only 3p more from Waterstones!! :T:money:thanks Martin!!
Oh, and i've gone all MSE mad and joined ChickyWiggle's 365 in 365 challenge,
and also the Frugal Living Challenge (though havent figured out my budget yet!) (in reality it will have to be as little as possible!!!). Wish me luck! (and maybe save me from Sew & Sew!!!)Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. This is a nice design - what is it called ? and how do you find stitching on black aida
<snipped quote>Its a DMC Born Free design called Tiger and Cub. I don't find stitching on black all that bad to be honest as long as the light is right.
<snipped quote>
Yep, it's called Tiger and Cub.
And I'm the same, stitching on black is no problem, though good lighting helps!
Hmmmm, I thought I quoted someone else's post on the Tiger and Cub toom but it seems to have got lost.
Anyways, it looks like quite a few of us have this in our 'to do' pile!
Someone mentioned that they were making it their challenge for this year, I think I may just join you in that!caroline78 wrote: »Enjoying looking at all your designs..
Quick wonder: How do you all stitch...do you do rows at a time, blocks of colour or what...
I stitch all the main big bits of colour first and then fill in the little bits afterwards, I also like to do the backstitch as I go too..
I'm another one who starts in the middle.
I always do the darker colours first, so I do it in blocks of the darker colour first, then the lighter colours.
I've just bought an air erasable pen though, so I might try from the top left corner on the next one I start13 Projects in 2013 Finished: 5 of 13

I can't understand people starting their stitching in the middle. I know that's where you're supposed to start but I struggle to stitch upwards so I always start in the top left and work down and right. I'm very careful about calculating my fabric requirements, how big the design is and therefore how much I have round the edge before I start.0

You don't stitch upwards, in a way.
It's kinda hard to describe but what I do is start in the middle, as I said, and stitch the bottom right portion.
When they is done, it makes it easier to calculate where to start on the top right portion, so you are still stitching downwards.
Hope that makes sense.13 Projects in 2013 Finished: 5 of 13

Ah, OK. Well in that case I think I'm less likely to make a counting error if I calculate where to start then stitch from the top left. If I have to count a big space and jump to start there then the risk is a lot higher, especially as I stitch on evenweve and even 1 hole out would be a big problem. (I know 1 hole on aida is also a big problem, it's just easier to go wrong like that on evenweve)0 -
I'm probably going to sound totally confusing here but anyway...
I like to stitch main blocks of colour first and always start around the middle, but then start making my way up and to the left and then work round clockwise. Doing all the big pieces first and then the
smaller pieces...although if I get bored of working one colour I will do the smaller pieces.
As most of my pieces come in kit form I never know how much extra material they have given so would be scared to start anywhere else apart from the middle.;)I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY;)0 -
I've always started in the middle and worked in blocks of colour but I've been making very slow progress this week despite spending a couple of hours at a time stitching so after reading on here I've used my erasable pen to mark out the squares only did this yesterday so to soon to see any difference in progress.
you all seem to making great progress with your projects. Its great to see other peoples works give me incentive to keep going. hope to spend the afternoon stitching again keeps me from going shopping and spending money I haven't got.
I think I have some unfinished projects tucked away in loft so need to get up there at some point and find them if possible
anyway have a great day everyone happy stitching
