ooops - i'd even read that - wrtten it then baby brain decided 13 years was longer then 16 :p
We recently discussed our longest UFO’s to date….I believe nykied won this competition after admitting she started her first piece back when she was 16. After leaving it lurking in her cupboard destined to never see the light of day again she was spurred on at the age of 32 to finish it off thanks to encouragement from the group..

Will try to do my best with the weather Flat Eric - although I can see a few clouds appearing. Your choccie buns look delish - can I have one please? I have been to gym this morning but did I work hard enough to warrant a choccy bun? - probably better pass this time :o:p:D

    Yes - help yourself :j

Even though I have just started my latest project I have been wondering how to go about funding my next one as the nicer kits are expensive and funds are pretty tight at the moment. I was thinking of having a sewing pot and try to drop any spare change in that can go towards new project. Had thought about buying just chart and then buyiing a couple of threads each week. Perhaps you could share any ideas you have on funding your 'stitching habit'. :)

Thanks for my number chicky :D

I spend quids on getting my cross stitch fix whether it be a magazine I see or a new kit on sewandso. This is despite having more than enough projects to keep me going for a very long time! I think part of my obsession is due to the fact that I saw some kits I liked when I first started cross stitching but didn't buy them and of course they were discontinued so now if I see something, I buy it for fear that it will disappear never to be seen again although of course ebay is wonderful for those long forgotten kits :j.

So I am not the best person to advise because I tend to just buy it and worry about it afterwards :rotfl: but there was a tiger kit I wanted that was pricey so it was my "when I get back to slimming world target reward"because the subscriptions at slimming world cost me £4.95 a week so back at target means no fee to pay which means £4.95 each week towards my tiger kit. Also round up your shopping to the nearest pound and put the difference in the pot - save a particular coin ? (i save £2 coins) cut back on something (me = chocolate and alcohol) and spend those pennies on stitching instead.
aww thanks everyone....well i'd love a freebie but also happy to donate for one....

Have looked at just giving - we could do MIND through it but not bridge (that i could see) so am happy to go with mind if thats what people are happy with (make it more UK based then just local). also if we did this we could then donate the 'unwanted' kits if there are any after we've got our mits on em direct to them to sell in their shop or use with their 'clients'. I think this would work better then ebay - although as (sorry had toddler running accross computer so didn't see who it was) pointed out there are charges involved - however by giving 100% of proeeds to charity via them you dont get charged. (if that makes sense).

agains let me know if this is ok with people.

Ellip - if you drop me a message with the sampler story on (here or facebook) i am happy to include it.

right hubby wants me to dearch for the cool boarders 2 manual online...BBS

    re. ebay -

Yes Mind sounds a good plan and even better if we can pay any money via their just giving page - option c would seem to be the best one then.

Chicky I think Mind is a good idea and if we can by-pass ebay it's even better.

As promised here's a picture of my completed x-stitch for my nephew and his partner. It was going to be a house warming card but took too long to finish (I'm blaming the kitchen) so turned it in to a picture.

As you can see it's taken from the dictionary of homes, it's the Home Brew picture but I've changed the wording. My nephew's partner loves tea so this was appropriate.

Here's what it looked like once framed. Not 100% happy but it's ok.

The comment when it was opened was "can I live in a house that looks like this".

It's nice to get a good response.

This is lovely I love how you have framed it :D

    Chicky - fabulous letter :T

I also support option C with a and b then for the rest of the kits. Also I am happy with a charity supporting mental health.

When it comes to paying for the kits everyone could send the cheques made payable for the charity to Chicky to pass on. And if the charity could send out a downloadable donation form each of us buying kits could fill that (so that charity can then claim gift aid) and send with the cheques. This way there won't be any collection body charging any part of the money and it all goes to charity.

Perhaps we could donate the money from the kit sales to Mind and then donate the left over kits to Bridge for those they help to do.

I still haven't finished stitching the beaver batches but I am going to rebel and do my cross stitch for next hour instead. Off to go and check what is on telly...

23rdspiral. Love the wedding sampler, very pretty.

Moosmummy. Teddy is coming along nicely.

Ailsb. The 'home sweet home' is great, I love the frame.

Ebay is great for cheap kits. Around october time I ask Mum what my budget is for xmas and I go on ebay. I can usually get some real nice kits for next to nothing.
If I see a kit on a site that I just have to have I will always google for the best price I can get.

    Morning all! :j

The stitchery bug has grabbed me today so I intend to get back to my designs.

It struck me last night that it's only a couple of weeks until school breaks up! Was thinking about doing something for the boys' teachers but not sure what - any ideas? Have been looking at phrases about teaching, thinking about charting something, not sure.

Also, bit of luck - been lookingg for the 'Princess Sleeps here' for a while but didn't want to fork out for the full kit - found the chart for £5.95 with free delivery from Faye whittakers own site :)

Shelly - he is just lovely, you have got loads done :D

  • Chicky, lovely reply it certainly covers everything we are. Great that you managed to add everyones imput :D

Blue-eyed-girl, I second ebay, when I started out the majority of my kits were either from ebay or free mag kits. Its also worth looking for bulk lots on ebay, even if some arn't to your taste as you can pass those on. If you want to go down the charts and thread route just pick up a few evey now and again. I have a lot of them because I did this but also because I found a chart I wanted to stitch and ordered every colour needed. This hobby can be as expensive or cheap as you want to make it, for me its one of the cheapest hobbys I have done and the mose enjoyable :D

So below is what I completed while on holiday, the first is a cover kit from WOXS and I really enjoyed doing it. Although I love the all our yesterday designs I never thought of stitching one. I am now on the look out for some kits ;) The other two are buttons (CS mag) and although I like them I don't like the finished rose design, it just doesn't sit right on the button :( However the dino is super cute :T

Todays plan is to finish the top three pages of my eye project before moving hopefully onto the last two main pages. Have a great day all :D

Can't work out if she was admiring this or waiting to attack!!!

Anyway, hope you all had a good weekend - not had time to catch up on any of the thread but remembered I'd promised Chicky these for the reply.
