Just a quick question, I dug out an old UFO from 2005  and had a quick look over the chart, and some stitches require 5 strands! I've never had a chart that called for more than 2 or 3 strands, has anyone else come across this? And is it more regular than I thought?
Thank you!
The chart in question, {just in case anyone else has done it or has it in their collection} is White Lightning by John Seerey-Lester.
I have stitched with three stands (when I did the Mr Men designs) but thats the most I have stitched with. I guess the chart features anything from one strand to the 5 strands to really bring the picture alive. I bought this kit recently http://www.sewandso.co.uk/cgi-bin/find/db.cgi?db=zoom&uid=&Prod_Code=60366&ww=on&do=search_results and it just uses one strand for the cross stitch. I will double check when I get round to stitching it though !!
Someone who posted in the 2010 cafe wanted a Guess how much I love you design. Well Cross stitch Card shop dropped through my door today :j (an xmas present from my OH) that i think he forgot I had asked for :rotfl: and there is a design feature the guess how much I love you rabbits. It will be in the shop in a few days I guess. If you bought the book that I mentioned previously though then you will probably already have the design that is featured because it looks familiar !0 -
In all my stitching years Ive never heard of using 5 strands. To be honest Ive very rarely used 3. I would have thought it would be abit bulky for the fabric???
My 'Treasured Time' Victorian skating scene used 4 threads at some points....5 is more than I have come across in any design
Looks good though....;):D
Love the little mice!
Thank you both, I will go take a pic of that part of the chart and post it, make sure I'm not mis-reading it LOLHello everyone, new to these boards but feel this is something I need to do!
I have been stitching for years, but haven't picked up a needle for over 2 years, I was doing an all our yesterdays picture for my nan and when she died nearly 3 years ago I was just over half done with it, I managed to finish that one but haven't been able to pick it up since, maybe 2011 is the time?
I have another all our yesterdays one on the go and have many many more kits unopened. All our yesterdays is my fave but I love tatty teddy and winnie the pooh as well, I also have a set of ballerinas to do.
Welcome aboard, AOY is one of my favourites too13 Projects in 2013 Finished: 5 of 13

have found pirate ship
and princess palace
I should be able to;);) tomorrow or friday so feel free to drop me your email on a pm.
Heads up - they are designed to be stitched on 16ct aida with madeira threads so all the numbers are for madeira. This should make all our designs nice and unique as I'll be using up dmc/ anchor stash (with maybe one or 2 new ones).
Gonna have to buy some 16ct aida tho
pirate is approx: 230wide x 180high stitches.
princess is approx: 170wide x 240high stitches
just off to hunt for some conversion thingies for aida and threads.
ETA:Pirate: Divide the design height (180 stitches) by the fabric thread count (16-count): - 180 divided by 16 = 11.25 (12").
Now divide the design width (230 stitches) by the fabric thread count (16-count): - 230 divided by 16 = 14.37" (15").
So this design will measure 12" by 15" when completed on the 14-count aida.Princess: Divide the design height (240 stitches) by the fabric thread count (16-count): - 240 divided by 16 = 15".
Now divide the design width (170 stitches) by the fabric thread count (16-count): - 170 divided by 16 = 10.62" (11").
So this design will measure 15" by 11" when completed on the 14-count aida.

Hi all,
Sorry I've not been around much, had lots going on.
The robins are coming along nicely and I hope to have them finished by my next Open Uni course in Feb and then hope to do the dictonairy of gardens for my dad.
to all those that gave cross stitch as Christmas gifts, I hope they were gratefully received.
Lots of love,

Cheeky post here... Flat Eric - are you able to
the row of cats for me. I have row of fairies if you want to swap
Cheekyness over!
I went to Hobbycraft today, and their sale was pants... 3 for 2 on kits. I looked at the cut thru's and I have decided I want to do the Lighthouse. I will order it from Across Town Stitching (£22) unless anyone else has it and would like to share- Do we know the details of our stitchalong yet - I've never done one before.
Back to Too Pooped now. I am really enjoying itx

It then goes on to suggest you add an additional 5" to each dimension to allow for framing...... so 17"x20" and 20"x16".

I was thinking that we should start this on January 1st-new year, new blank piece of aida to work with...:j
How about we aim to do at least one day (or evening!) a week on it and post our progress pics weekly too? Of course if the mood takes you (or you're stitching it for a deadline), you can do more work on it.
I've got the Pirate Ship kit too & I'm sure I bought some hand dyed evenweave to stitch it on. I think it was to create a stormy seas kind of effect. Wonder if I had the sense to put the fabric with the kit??? I'm tempted to stitch Princess Palace first, though, as DH bought the kit for me years ago. Thanks to all the girls in the Cross Stitch Cafe! You're all fantastic! :A0 -
t4mof - that is a fantastic lookalike! Really captures him :T Is it for someone or are you keeping it for yourself?
Definitely for me - I've been a fan for 26 years and I don't know anybody else who would want it :rotfl:
Love your fireside mice. I think I'll be aiming to do a wintry/Christmassy one in 2011. I like the Dimensions collection and one year I'd like to do the stockings that you can get.
Pinkruth - it is the first portrait I have done. Wouldn't normally be my kind of thing but it's George so had to be doneThe company that did this kit also do a Boyzone one which I am considering for my friend's 40th birthday. I've got a few years to think about it though as she's 35 next year!
Can't wait to see everyone's progress on the Cut Thru's. They look like so much fun to stitch.CC Debt at LBM Nov 08 - £25000+ DFD Dec 2012Second DFD May 2021Starting my MFW journey: Opening Balance: £138,000; July 2019: £135107.33; July 2024 £52974.60; July 2025 £11140.232025 MFW #360 -

Yay! Will join you from the 4th or so when it arrives

Bah you are all bad and make me spend money!0 -
Good evening ladies, I hope you all had a good Christmas, I had my Christmas last night after finally arriving home at quarter to 12 on monday night, unfortunately Isobel has picked up a bug on the way home but is only sick after milk so that means lots of pumping by me and lots of grizzling by her
I would have loved to join in the Cut Thru stitch along as I have Noah's Ark in my stash but unfortunately I have a very important challenge for January that doesn't involve any stitching
I need to pack up my entire house in preperation for moving over 500 miles to be near my Mum, she's been kinda lonely since my Dad passed away and I have suffered with PND since Izzy was born so I think it'll be good for all of us and DH seems keen on a fresh start.
We are leaving on the 7th of February and I need to try and condense a large 3 bedroom house into a garage until we find somewhere to live so I'm gonna be doing a lot of clearing out
Wish me luck :rotfl:
