  • Hi, I serached "Maldives" and found this thread, I am going in Jul/Aug with my wife to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. Anyone any good suggestions for hotels? We would really like a great beach and pool as we dont want to do much and also all inclusive if possible, any advice greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks, Paul :)

Paul, depends on your budget and whether you want to get to a resort by speedboat or seaplane. I stayed at Coco Palm Bodu Hithi and it was absolutely beautiful as all beach villas/water villas have their own pool as well as the large communal infinity pool. All I can say is the Maldives is absolute heaven on earth - pure bliss! You'll have a fantastic time.

jtr - just found your thread and the Maldives its definitely worth it. You'll come back more inspired to clear your debt and save just so you can go back again. I also saw a Maldives holiday in a Kuoni brochure when I was in my teens and decided to make the dream come true for my 40th a couple of years ago. It was very expensive but well worth it.

Hi Paul, welcome to my thead :) As Micron says below there are a lot of factors to consider when trying to find somewhere in the Maldives (there are around 100 resort islands ranging from £800 per week to around £8000 per week!). I'm more than happy to help in anyway I can as I did absolutely HOURS of reasearch before we booked :rotfl:. If you want to send me a PM with answers to these questions I can send you some info if you like?

When do you want to go? Season plays a big factor in price
    How long for?
Do you want a house reef for snorkelling or not?
How much do you want to spend? Just a rough idea will do!
Do you want to do any diving while there?
What sort of accomodation would you like - bog standard room/beach villa/water villa - jacuzzi or no jacuzzi?!

One other thing I would add it that AI in the Maldives is not like anywhere else, it usually doesn't include your mini bar, cocktails or any a la carte restaurants. Obviously there are some exceptions to this so I'll try and pick the best ones within your budget. Just to add - I know a fair bit about the budet to mid range resorts but the much higher end are not my forte as I was never able to spend that much ;).

I keep being advised to start saving for the next trip now! I would love to go again next year but it all depends on my annual bonus and unfortunately at the moment it isn't looking good :(

    Only 80 days to go!!!

  • Thanks everyone, JTR thank you so much for your offer of advice. I have just spent three hours trawling tripadvisor from number one ( as if ..lol..) and only got to 30!! I got a great deal with Airmiles to get return flights to male and probably mistakenly booked to go to singapore and bali in the middle of the three week spell. We are in the Maldives for two seperate 4 day spells ( Middle of July and first week in Aug) either side which I now realise could cost a fortune in transfers. Neither of us really swim so snorkelling etc.. not that important. When I mention AI its prob because we work hard all year and blow out a little on hols so having a few drinks/snacks during the day is the norm. We are not overly concerned with type of accom, prob more concerned with value for money although some of the beach villa look great!! As for price I really have not thought about a figure yet.........Many many thanks again..... :)
  • That's worrying about the cheque - surely your OH can just inform his bank that it is indeed a valid cheque? xx

What's happening with the cheque now?

It's been ages since I have been in and updated, my apologies.

The cheque all got sorted in the end, OH managed to speak to the bank and they were happy it was genuine so the holiday is all paid off now! :j 68 days to go!

Other than that the last two weeks have been hard work. My mum moved, from number 3 to number 5 lol but it was so much effort and we were all running backwards and forwards, she's been very stressed about it all but I think she is managing to settle down now. I went round there to help on a Thursday the end of Feb and I got a parking ticket - £35, great and then my car had some weird air lock in the fuel tank and I had to get it looked at as petrol came out of the filler cap when I unlocked it .

I started to look into underwater photography and hastily bought a lens for my camera at a cost of £100 :o, the current retail price is £280 so it was a bargain but not so much when you realise it's not very compatible with your camera :rotfl:. It's now back up for sale. I have also started loading my Fair FX $ card ready for holiday so we don't get stung using a credit card abroad, so far I have put £160 on it which I am happy with. I also had to get the car serviced which was £170 and I've just had to renew contents insurance which was £60

On Sunday just gone I did some diving! I passed my exam with 98% and did all the required skills, I was really nervous but did very well, even if I do say so myself! I am going back next month just to have a play around and do some more practice but I am nearly there now :T.

All the above means I am fairly broke, although even with all that expense I haven't yet touched my savings. I think I will have to, but I will desperately keep it to a minimum. I am trying to save from March/April payroll enough for my diving so it's just trips etc to pay for. OMG I realised we can have breakfast brought to our balcony whilst out therr so I will have to do that at least once :D. I also want to buy a new camera before we go, I'm trying to snipe a cheap one on Ebay but haven't got there yet, it's my birthday in a few weeks so hoping for some contributions but my brother is being made redundant next month so he may not be able to.

Not doing well on weight loss, just total lack of motivation but I am now taking medication for my Psoriasis and it's improving every day so hopefully I can start swimming again soon. Oh still doesn't have trackie bottoms for Badminton and he will get shouted at soon!

The reason I haven't been on for so long is because there is lots going on at work, we aren't in trouble yet but unless drastic steps are taken then we might be. We are all losing 2 days annual leave and there is talk of hours being cut. I can't afford my hours to be cut so I am working flat out to keep busy and 'warrant' my hours if that makes sense?

    On a positive note - I AM FINALLY SUB £5K :T

I think I am now on the homeward stretch at last!

    Take care everyone
