Romantic Restaurants Or Night Spots To Propose !!

I don't get the whole proposal in a restaurant thing personally. They can be great, really romantic places but aren't that special for any particular couple in the main.
Mind you, in the winter inside might not be such a bad idea!0 -
Why not a romantic walk?
I find the restaurant thing very intimidating. So many people to watch you.
How about you go on a lovely day trip taking in the sights then go for a walk and when you are sitting back admiring the view, start talking about how fun life is and then move it around to asking her to marry you.
My husband did this and it was lovely. I would have been horrified if it had been in a restaurant personally.
We then went to the jewellers the next day and hunted for engagement rings.

You could pop the question, then go for a drink to celebrate, a nice meal then stand on the Thames and watch the fireworks0 -
I'd opt for a walk, hand in hand by the Thames on the South Bank after dark with all the lights sparkling and reflecting in the water. If you have an outdoor plan, it might be worth making sure that you have really warm coats/waterproofs, hats, gloves and a brolly with you! You could secrete a little bottle of something to celebrate with and some plastic glasses/paper cups to drink out of as well.
Failing that, how are you about ice skating? I think there's quite a few outdoor rinks operating in London atm. I've never been to any of them but Somerset House is one of the best known. In summer the courtyard is full of cafes and fountains and is a lovely stopping-off place. I suspect there will be ice-rink catering with hot chocolate etc for afterwards. Maybe other people know.

I remember when my children were skating regularly and, one lunchtime, the rink management let one couple stay on the ice a bit longer at the end of the session (the bloke had fixed it). They turned up the music and let them finish their ice dance in the middle of the rink then he went down on one knee and proposed. It was very sweet. The word went round everyone who had come off the ice and when she accepted there was heaps of cheers and clapping.
Hope you have a lovely time away.

What about the Brasserie at the Oxo Tower? It's buzzy rather than quietly romantic but have fabulous food and great views of the Thames... It may well be booked up by now but it's a great place for a meal without being too pretentious. (I once went on a first date there.. followed by an evening at Smollensky's in the Strand (live music) and I was hooked!somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0

you know your girlfriend best of course - but, I would have been horrified at a public proposal. but if she relishes the attention and you are 100% sure she will say yes - then her favourite restaurant - clue the staff in beforehand so they can bring out champagne when she says yes! but dont, hun, go down on one knee or before you know it, you will have a waiter kneeling with you asking if you dropped a fork!
dont hide engagement ring in food either - she wont want it after its passed through her body!
sorry, sorry, its just that I cant help thinking nightmare scenararios!
my OH proposed to me while I was really sick (throwing up actually) and i KNEW he really meant it - I couldnt have looked worse or felt worse! he confessed after that he was going to go the romantic route but felt so sorry for me and so in love he just blurted it out!0 -
I'd love my man to propose to me in bed. He usually offers to make me breakfast in the morning, so it would be really sweet if he brought it up on a tray with the toast and what not:p... Maybe a single red rose in a little vase, next to a silver tiffany's ring in the oh so famous turquoise box! A girl can dream, can't she:(?..:rotfl:
I feel like we're all putting this lovely chap off now. If he wants to go resturant, then he can go resturant. Hopefully she says yes:D we're all rootin' for ya on here.Toto, I
Don't think we're in
Kansas anymore...

I think the London Eye is what they use as their "scaffolding" for the fireworks so I'm pretty sure it's shut on New Year's Eve. Also what some of the other posters have said, London restaurants tend to get booked up weeks in advance so you might struggle to find one for New year now.
In terms of something a bit different, what about Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park? I can't post links cos I'm a newbie but if you Google it, it's free to get in and is like a fair with a German Xmas market attached( like in wooden chalets), very Christmassy and plenty of food and drink as well!
Also- the fireworks spots fill up really early along the Thames so you'd have to be there a long time to get a good spot for midnight, the police close the areas once they're full. Back from the Embankment is pretty built up so you might not get a good enough view if you stood anywhere else! However nothing ventured nothing gained- you could always go along and see if you can get in!0 -
Rocky are you staying at the metropole? It's been a while since i've been there but i spent a very memorable, romantic birthday there with h. The restaurant is so high up that you get stunning views across london, including the london eye. They possibly don't have them anymore but even the champagne glasses came in a little shared holder for two. I loved it up there. If you are staying as well, then i'm sure the staff will bend over backwards for you as well.
You can see the london eye and then go down there later to see the fireworks! Good luck!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Just watch the weather. You can have the Tiffany ring, the big Christmas Tree at the Rockerfella, but if it is peeing it down, you have wet knees. My original plan was Central Park but the weather was hammering it.0
