    Hi all

Twisted Angel - painting the wood.

If it's unpainted I would just sand it down (some people use a damp cloth with white spirit beforehand but I don't usually) then if it's to be painted a colour, do a base coat in matt white emulsion. Then a coloured emulsion.

If it's to be kept natural then use a varnish, I usually use a clear one if the wood is nice, or a stained one if I don't like the wood for any reason. Sandpaper in between coats.

As to the picture I would prefer to stencil and paint it because it's very easy to get creases in it or stick it wonky. With a stencil you could paint over it all if it goes wrong.

Fantastic thank you Angela. Will post piccies as i do it. So hope it comes out ok  I want to make them something special!

Twisted Angel - As far as I'm aware Ace don't ask you to set up a credit account. My Mum joined last Christmas to buy a personalised dolls house for my Neices. I know she paid cash.

I bought all my wrapping, gift tags and cards (co-ordinating) from Marks and Spencers - I know it would expensive now, but I got mine really cheap in the January sale. Birthdays card shops sell sets, of tags, ribbons, bows and wrap nearer the time, which are all co-ordinated. They are really nice quality too, I used them last year. For personalised bits and pieces, try ebay. ;)

Thanks Elysia i shall try Ebay. I phoned Studio and Ace up and both CS said i would need to open a credit account first then i could pay it all off if i wanted to. Really do not want to do that :o

I do usually buy in the sales and save but this year was poorly at the end of Dec beg of Jan so missed them this year :(

    Hello all:j

    OH coming home tonight :T:beer::rotfl:
Despite weight loss he looked really well last night and today said he felt well enough to be at home.....he's doing nothing there except lay on the bed and watch tele or walk about (well hobble really) and can do that at home. Managed to speak to a doctor ! (Shock!) Told him OH would need the right pain killers to bring home so he could get decent nights sleep, and any other medication he took with him that was ''lost'' by this ward last time. Need to see sister when I get there to check on anything else he may need, after op effects etc.and for arrangements to be made for nurse to come and do dressings.
He'll be given a follow up appt with current consultant but so far he's had 4 all dealing with the same thing so either they'll all have to get together for one appointment or he'll just see one. No point in seeing all of them.
So, hopefully that will be that. Doctor assured me as best he could that there should be no recurrance of all this.
Maybe now I can concentrate a bit more on other stuff. Oh, he's been given brand new pair of wooden walking sticks by physio ! He's well pleased with them:)

    Hope you're all ok.

Sorry ALJA - forgot to say welcome:) Was so wrapped up in my own little world
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

    HELLOOOOOOO!!!!

    *Waves*

I'm back!! lol Been away on a lovely holiday, then the day after we came back DD had a sickness bug (which OH then got - I seem to have escaped!!)... so I'm not quite with it regarding Christmas! So nows the time to get back to it before I miss all the early bargains!!

Hope everyone's doing really well - I need to read back to catch up! Big hugs to everyone old and new, and gentle ones for mary & her OH! lol. Been thinking of you all. We've had some big computer updates in work too so internet has been sparce!!!

Need to sort out my Christmas gift list - that's my plan for today.

Before I leave you all, DD is 2 this December, so I have her birthday and Christmas to sort - any suggestions for FANTASTIC (but not overly expensive!) presents for a 2 year old girl?? Not sure where to start yet.... lol

    Xmas Saver!

    Hello ALJA

Welcome back Pips Mum and TQ.

Mary - thats brilliant news about OH, sounds like they have finally got their act together, maybe the weight loss could be down to the meals as much as anything, there smaller portions, and calories are lower, there based on not much activity needed, and don't know if OH is prone to snacks etc, as that makes the difference.
I know its completely the oppoasite but when I was expecting DD I was in Turkey for 2 weeks and despite being all inclusive holiday, my waist line normally expands, I lost 10lbs in the 2 weeks, it was I wasn't enjoying the food, and was eating more fruit.

Twisted Angel - Big long shot, but nearer xmas Halfcost have a Christmas selection and they usually have the matching sets, you pay when you order so theres no credit account. Its all new, its basically overstocks etc, from argos, betterware, studio, ace etc, and there can be some really good bargains.

Claire - Trying to rack my brains re DD, the days before they discover ds, wii and all those lovely gadgets. I know when Miss Hoodie was about 2yrs she had her 1st pram, it was a mini version, think we'd paid about £20 for it, sure Argos rings a bell. It was quite a robust one, but had a quick look and these are the nearest that I could find.

I have knit my 1st item for Christmas, (got to photo it) have done a long aran scarf - which go for Irish grandparents, and have downloaded some baby patterns last night, poncho, and cardigan, (suppose to be easy make) go up to 2 yrs, so have a bash at them, as we have a few more babies to get this xmas, and being productive and doing some egg cosies with the left over wool, as most people have had the xmas trays (still do 2 for the neighbours), and then one for the Irish side, and then another for Miss Hoodies Aunty and Uncle. So the plan is when get to Devon, hit my favourite bargain shops and get a few bits for the trays.

The plan is to have a good sort out in Sept, when Miss Hoodie back at school and then see what xmas prezzies we need and how much we can use jewellery, knitting (for children) and save as much as we can!xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
