The other person's statement shows several withdrawls from an ATM in the same town as me so it looks like most of the crossed over statements will probably be for people living in the same post code area as each other.

Most volume mailings are mailsorted to gain discounts by the Royal Mail etc.

    Move to a better area.

I live in a very nice area.

My neighbour was broken into a few weeks ago, what should he do?

How have people been getting on with their compensation offers?

Also, where did this £100 ball park figure come from? Seems like Billy BS to me.

The letter I got today just said, "unfortunately, we have identified...blah blah''

'blah blah..........If you still have any concerns or queries please contact us on 0845 600............(*note not a free phone number)'

No mention of compensation, just a generic 'apology'.
Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.
  • Just to let you know also that I am not a member of Santander yet I received a Credit/Debit card from them which was not in my name and then 3 days later they also sent me the PIN number to go with it. Luckily I am an honest person and told them of their mistake.......shoddy though hey?
Can I suggest you contact visa or mastercard (I think Santander are master card), tell them it was sent to your address as this is a common fraud, someone has filled in an application form with your address. If you have a post box like me and not a letter box in your door, this is how they would dip into your mail, the locks can be open with a screw driver, alternatively it could be intercepted at the sorting office or post man they take on a lot of temporary staff from eastern Europe. Santander help the thieves by printing the santander logo in the top left of their everlope so they know which one to steel. The police will not be interested and even the Fraud hot line, they will tell you that Santander are the target not you. A check of your credit record would be a good idea to make sure the are no spurious loan applications it worth £2.

Buy a big dog or two even better beats any alarm, they sometimes come back if it was easy to get in. A cricket bat under the bed is a good idea. Stop all his credit debit cards, close the bank accounts rendering the sort/account number void, any keys missing change all locks including the car key code. Paperwork missing ? birth certs, driving licence or passports, statements, utility bills. Keep a eye on your credit record, once they steal this information they can use it for years after.

I called the number quoted yesterday and made it clear from the off that I was furious about the 'letter of apology'. Before she'd even asked for my details, the girl said she would give me £100 compensation. She said it would take 2 or 3 days to hit my account, but having checked my account on-line today, it's there already. Give them a call; what can you lose?
  • This is my first post on this forum.

Just wanted to let everybody that received the wrong statement from Santander (dated 18.12.10) that they are entitled to £100 compensation.

My advice is not to phone them on their premium rate phone line, just go to their website and email a complaint to them.

I sent my complaint on Sunday got a phone call from them admitting their 'mistake' and by Wednesday had £100 credited to my account.

As stated in one of the posts above mention 'Distress and Inconvenience' in your email.

Thanks to this forum I am now £100 better off, although somebody else has probably got my bank details, Santander say this is nothing to worry about (!!).

Hope this is helpful to you.

Change his perception of a nice area? Really, how can you sit there and list all these crimes that keep happening to you and then insist you like in a nice area? Evidently not.

GREAT advice. I emailed them on Thursday and they put the money in my account today.

Can't say I have any complaints about Santander's service. They can mess up statements as much as they like if they keep giving me £100 :)
  • Under Santander's complaints policy any breach of data protection automatically entitles you, as the customer to a compensation payment of £100. Customer's are not made aware of it and you will not be offered it unless you ask. If this has happened to you call in and discuss this payment quoting your distress and inconvenience.

I had 10.000 removed from my isa the bank says it was a hacker. Would a hacker pay my National insurance for me (i am on payee) so i am now in credit wth them Also they paid my water rates for me. £4000 I live in a 3 bedroom bungalow with my husband dog and budgies. The bill is usually £300 per year Also a credit card that was dormant I was in credit with them as well and a thing called wardle dc I dont know what that is but the whole thing was a farce It went on for 8 weeks I couldnt access my or my husbands accounts online.
I have got all the money back from these people myself
For my trouble they have offered me £30
