MSE News: Santander sends thousands of statements to wrong addresses

I find Santander (A&L) ok.
I put £500 in each month and withdraw it the next day and they give me free travel insurance. That said, I am waiting for a call from the Co-op who offer an account with free travel insurance and breakdown cover.
Any fine will end up being paid for by their customers - as usual.
GGThere are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.0 -
Whatever they've done, or failed to do, these printers are clearly incompetent. I work in the print industry and gerrymclean1 is right - Santander changed print suppliers recently, probably to a cheaper but obviously less reliable one. Seems like that's working out brilliantly!
Begs the question who's really to blame....the incompetent printer who they're pointing the finger at or Santander for switching to a cheaper less reliable supplier.
Ultimately of course it's us customers who suffer from this kind af corner-cutting nonsense.
I'm closing my accounts with them ASAP!So they either ran a full reel through again and printed on the reverse? Unlikely.
Or managed to print single tier in duplex mode?
Makes you wonder what the staff - whose job it is to not only feed the machines - but sample check the output regularly were doing at the time?
Still - they won't be much used to looking at the other side on allegedly single side stationery!0 -
This is wonderful news. For the past eight months I've been sitting here with a bank card Santander kindly sent me for use in its ATMs. I don't have a bank account with Santander nor have ever had an account with any of the 16,893 British financial instutions now absorbed within the Santander brand. I did write to Santander asking why I have this card but, of course, received no reply.
Perhaps I will now receive a statement showing what's in "my" account.0 -
Listen guys see my previous comments. Call Santander complaints and insist on a payment of £100 for distress and inconvenience also known as D and I. You are entitled to this as minimum. When you quote D and I they will know what you mean and do not be fudged off. What a nice Christmas present.0

Such a shocking level of incompetence and poor service from a bank that has only been operating in the UK for a relatively short time. I really don't understand why heads haven't rolled at the top of this organization.poppy100

Yeah........they have a special team dealing with compensation claims. That's the best laugh I've had today. You can almost certainly be sure that the claim process will not run smoothly. If there is scope for things to go wrong you can bet Santander will find a way.
Don't for chr***s sake phone them - or when you fail to get a proper response - write. Life is just too short for the sake of £100.
Their ability to hold a banking licence should be thoroughly investigated by the FSA; they are an absolute shambles and should not be allowed to operate.Take my advice at your peril.0 -
Interesting development from a print insider, the new American print supplier is called IOS and guess what day it printed the first batch of our statements....(drum roll).....18th December 2010, the day after Santander sent its long term supplier (a company called Mailcom) down the plughole. This could be the tip of a very big iceberg! :eek:0

I really don't understand why heads haven't rolled at the top of this organization.
Unfortunately (two to date) they've been rolling in the direction of Lloyds TSB

.... if it's 'rats and ships' ........ it seems a strange choice by both parties as Lloyds isn't exactly a premier liner. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

..... but it does look as though Santander doesn't make wise choices. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
