We've been trying to set up OH's new OSF, and it's all going reasonably smoothly, with the help of an 11yr old friend, but nothing we do seems to switch on message notification. Messages are received, but no tone or anything to indicate this. There is a facility for this, but just doesn't seem to work. Any ideas, anyone? Thanks in advance.0

Just want to keep this in todays post!0

Just got my phone too and baffled by many things I can't get to work.
To set ringtone got into messages, then press menu, then select settings, scroll down and you will find notification (select), then below that is 'select ringtone' (select then choose ringtone), then below that is vibrate (again select to switch on or off). Hope that makes sense.
I'm struggling with 'ungrouping' texts as it automatically groups them but name rather than just in date order which is how I want to see them. Also it seems to want to delete a whole thread rather than just one text. Anyone? Have tried using another app called handcent but groups them in the same way.
My other problem is email - I have an ntlworld account (email not included in package) so cannot use the orange mail app. Was told to use K-9 mail - can now receive emails but can't send them despite putting the mail account details that orange told me to. Anyone?
Not enjoying my new phone that much prefer my old one for texting with a keypad and predictive text - much quicker.0 -
I'm sure you've probably explored these areas, but just in case you haven't...
1. Check your sound settings. I think its under "Settings->Sounds & Display->Ringer Volume". There is a checkbox to indicate using the same volume for the notifications. If this is unchecked then you may have set the volume too low for the notifications to be heard.
2. Try changing the "Settings->Sound & Display->Notification Ringtone" to something louder.
3. Make sure you haven't got the phone on "Silent" mode
4. Try a factory reset. "Settings->Privacy->Factory Data Reset"
Failing that...try flashing your phone with a new ROM from android.modaco.com
Good luck.0 -

Long press on a msg within the thread brings up the popup menu where "Delete message" is an option.

Are you sure you have the correct outgoing SMTP settings which is what you need to set for sending emails. i.e. server = SMTP.ntlworld.com

You have TouchPal keyboard installed on the handset. If you long press in an edit box, a popup menu appears with an option to change "Input Method". Choose TouchPal keyboard, then go into the TouchPal settings via the keyboard or "Settings->Language & Keyboard->TouchPal Input settings". You can also swipe across the keyboard left or right to change the layout, from phonepad to full qwerty. Theres a newer version of the TouchPal keyboard V4 by CooTek. It works better than the version loaded on the San Fran and keyboard can be made larger, etc. Alternatively try Swype if you don't want to type. Google it.
Android takes a bit of getting use to. The best thing about android is you can change most aspects of what you don't like. Nice phone for the price.0 -
Bit of a patchy connection where I am, but I've ordered a router from the bay for my desktop, so hopefully I can exploit some more of the excellent advice on here. For the price, it's a bit of a steal, this phone, loads of features, but it is a challenge if you are a fossil like me. Luckily I have access to a few kids, 11 to 14, even if they do make me look pretty stupid. I can put up with the patronising smiles!0

Theres a good forum for the orange san fran also known as the ZTE Blade here. You'll get plenty of help and inspiration of what the phone can do.0

Thanks for advice - can now delete individual messages. Still don't like having threads for texts - tricky to find the most recent texts that way.
Spoke to orange about email problems (def put right account details in) and was told I'd never be able to send them whatever app I used! Have agreed to add it to bundle for free.... not working yet but it had better work before my 7 days trial period is up - otherwise the phone is going back!
Next job is to sort out keyboard - but I'll leave that till tomorrow...0
