it should be one business day as per the prime terms, but in reality it's not. It's the equvalent of RM 1st class recorded for big business. It's at the mercy of the 1st class RM timescales, which are not gt'ed like SD.
More and more items are coming via the 1st class tracked NOT SD, I have 2 parcels as a PRIME customer still in RM's system with no tracking at my end as they have been sent by this tracked service, Amazon get the number/barcode.
I have had about half of my parcels this month SD (the numbers slowly decreasing) and about half 1st class tracked.
Although it should be one business day, in reality it's not most of the time, so Amazon pass the buck to RM.
I was getting so many parcels late as they weren't sent SD, I phoned up to complain. This is part of prime now and is going to be used more and more I was told. If you want gt'ed by 1 (sd) as above, as a definate delivery method you have to pay. It's luck of the draw what service you get else. This is all over the Amazon forums too.0 -
Absolutely agree with you. A load of Amazon stuff is stuck in the post, and I'm waiting for things from all over the place that I know were posted days and days ago, First Class.
Royal Mail have been disastrously bad this year - we had no deliveries for a whole week, when every other company (including paper boys and girls on their bikes!) was delivering normally. They just gave up altogether and didn't even try to deliver, despite being issued with snow and ice grips for their shoes. That applied to a large area round here, and I hear from local postmen that there are vast quantities of mail sitting in warehouses undelivered from several days ago.
I was a stout defender of Royal Mail against privatisation until recently, but not any more. Only privatisation is going to sort them out now. Sad, but, I think, true.
That may be your thoughts and experience this winter but perhaps you would do well to remember that this type of Arctic experience in December is rare historically and you can't really blame Royal Mail for not being able to deliver.
My postman has been out in the snow - yes deliveries are delayed but hardly surprising given the state of the roads (people can't get to work some days across the country so who is at work to process stuff if they can't get there).
As for Amazon prime - I ordered stuff on 8 Dec and received it 10 days later - the problem is that the private delivery company has a backlog because of the weather.
I have spoken with a number of delivery men in the past week and they all say that they have cages of goods waiting for delivery and not to expect to receive anything for Christmas if it was ordered in the past week.
I have taken this advice.
A week ago Amazon were actually advising people to use super saver delivery as it comes via Royal Mail - I got most stuff I ordered via Royal Mail around 8 - 15 Dec (still waiting for a couple of items that came from Channel Islands).
Poor weather is hardly a reason for privatisation of our postal service - if you want to pay more for your post and parcels and wait longer for it then privatisation is indeed the answer - as elsewhere in Europe.0 -

tracked is far removed from RD or 1st class
it also has the option of a next day service(if the sender is eligible and chooses it)
December is not the time to judge the merits of the service
however RM will have ot look at their staffing as the service gets more popular(and it will)
my old office was getting 40-60 a day
its hitting 900 a day just now
thats a lotta scanning when it doesnt even include the SD's0 -

Or in their Prime t&c's: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html/?nodeId=200198240 It still says Prime = one-day delivery except for items not eligible, which is how it's always been?
I've been an amazon prime member for 2 years now and have never had any problems with delivery. Saying that I ordered all my Christmas presents by 6th December so maybe if I had left it later I could still be waiting for stuff! I've only ever had prime things sent first class when I have selected first class as an option instead of one-day delivery, things like cds that I know will fit through the letterbox and I don't want to have to stay in to sign for.
Good point. And yet most of my stuff has always come, for the last three years, just First Class. Occasionally City Link. Yesterday they didn't even manage to put what I ordered into despatch - though they have now, and it's coming via City Link.
Even two Kindles a few weeks ago only came First Class.
They've always taken the line that they meet their Prime responsibilities by putting things into the post First Class - I'm not quite so sure, looking again at the T&C.0 -
This is what I am trying to say, first class "should" be a one business day service. in reality it's not.
Amazon are passing the buck to RM for this. When has ever 1st class been a gt'ed service, it's not, neither is this next day tracked either.
SO Amazon say, they have done their bit by sending by what should be a one day service.
More and more items are coming by the first class option, or only being eligible for it. This will continue, Amazon told me this as SD is too expensive.0 -

None of the delivery options from Amazon guarantee that it will be sent Royal Mail. Even Super Saver will often get sent by courier if its big enough, sometimes even smaller items are sent courier with the free delivery.0 -
My postie knocked this morning with some small items I bought off ebay at the beginning of the week (excellent!). I asked him about parcels as one from Amazon is over a week late now (panicking!!). He said they've got tons at the depot and they might be delivering some tomorrow as they realise they are probably wanted for Xmas (you don't say..). So why arent they doing this backlog (or at least making a big dent in it) before all the current post! Seems ridiculous.0

no.its a fully PDA tracked service. it also covers safeplace. so an item can be left safe if the sender denotes as such.
where do you get that idea from?
Thats what I was told Custardy by one of the online companies - have to confess I did question it myself!! But they assured me if they were "tracing a package" thats what they did.Free/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0
