I ordered a dvd box set last week & I'm a Prime member & amazingly it arrived the next day via Citylink, although strangely they posted it through the letterbox rather than knocking & asking for a signature.
Unfortunately I know why, when I picked it up it rattled
When I opened it tiny bits of plastic fell everywhere - the plastic casing on the dvd case had shattered completely, almost like someone had been smashing it with a hammer, or a lot of very heavy items had been put on top of it.
I rang Amazon as soon as I could and very helpful Irish chap apologised and said he would send another one straight away & I should still receive it by xmas (this was last sat) and he emailed me a return label for the damaged one.
I've now received an email from Amazon saying it is unlikely I will receive it in time for christmas.
The most annoying thing is that I received it in plenty of time, but thanks to Citylink's ineptitude I now won't be able to give it as a christmas gift

Agree about amazon service being pants this year.
I have a prime delivery trial at the moment and ordered things nearly ten days ago that were supposed to be delivered the next day.
I gave them extra time because of the weather but when nearly a week had passed I rang them to find out what was going on. Turns out that my prime deliveries had just been put into the normal first class post along with everything else!!
I argued that they must have known that it wouldn't arrive the next day as they were aware of the post and courier issues and they said that because of the size of the parcel it was always going to come that way. I don't think they should have been promising prime customers faster delivery when it was obvious they weren't going to get it!
I have now been offered a refund or a replacement to be sent out but that won't help in time for christmas.
Apologies if I sound like a right moaning minnie but I am really cross with amazon for accepting orders and promising delivery when it must have been apparent to them for some time that they wouldn't be able to fulfill them!I hated going to weddings. All the grandmas would poke me saying "You're next". They stopped when I started doing it to them at funerals

I ordered on Monday night (20th) via Prime. When I ordered amazon said that I wouldn't receive it until after Xmas. However, I got a despatch email yesterday and it arrived by CityLink this morning!0

I'm a Prime member and I still have outstanding items that were ordered 10 days ago. They are all due from Royal Mail. Everything from other couriers arrived in a timely fashion.0

Wouldn't count on anything from Amazon, my brother is a Prime customer and has been for months, he ordered all his shopping when he got paid on the 3rd Dec from Amazon using the prime service, he has recieved 1 item so far. Can't even use the excuse of the weather because he only had 1 day of snow and it melted straight away.
Good luck to everyone who is waiting for items.
Have to say, for a superstore this really is shocking service.0 -
Bah - just tracked one of mine - has gone from Wednesbury to Warrington. It needs to be at Stoke!Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0

Snap. The same dates too. My son paid for expediated delivery for a parcel he desperatly needs by tomorrow at the very latest..it's been sat in the depot since 16th.......City Link. Everyone else is managing, home delivery network, PO etc.

Amazon choose the delivery companies. They really need to review how they have performed and allocate future contracts on the basis of these results.
Totally agree. Why give an expediated parcel to City Link when they have such a backlog Nationwide? My son's parcel started off in Glasgow but we live in Kent. Don't think it's going to make it somehow.
On the other hand, I ordered from a marketplace seller, on 17th I think, using first class post. I did receive the message when ordering it wouldn't arrive by Christmas but it has just arrived.
Prime or otherwise, I would guess it's just too late now.0 -
I ordered a kindle for my DS and have always had prime. Dispatched on Thursday by RM - rang CS to say where is it and was told that I would have to wait until the 24th and then they would refund or replace :eek::eek:
How are they going to get a kindle to me on Christmas Eve?? First manager told me they would issue a replacement and then put me through to someone who started with "Let me explain the situation - its just not possible.......:mad::mad: Noooo let me explain this to you nothing is impossible! So they cannot guarantee delivery before Christmas for the most expensive item but my book order went through citylink a completely trackable service - !!!!!!???
One manager told me that many of the kindles have gone by RM and they cant understand it either. They told me that the computer allocates all the delivery companies and "its completely random", strange how randomly most of the kindles have gone by RM then......
Very very unimpressed with Amazon this year, and prime only guarantees expedited dispatch not necessarily quicker delivery.Free/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -

That's exactly right. I've been signed up to Prime for nearly 3 years now, and although things usually turn up the following day it's by no means guaranteed.
If they use a courier it's usually fine, but Royal Mail (which they usually use) has been extraordinarily unreliable.
There seems to be no logic in which service they use. £149 Kindles frequently go out using ordinary Royal Mail, but we've had single DVDs costing less than £5 come via City Link.0
