Keep going with the overpayments... It starts small, but it adds up quickly!

Cheers,

What an amazing bargain hunter you are! Not just in buying your presents early in sales but in all your other ways, making a little go just that little bit further. I could learn a lot from you I am sure!
I agree with you about fixing your mortgage. I'm currently on a tracker but I have a comfortably large buffer between my income and my mortgage outgoings so if interest rates do rise I'd be able to cope. Unless they hit the 17% mark again of course! (But even then I think I would be able to call up the bank of Mum and Dad and beg for a lump sum to put against an offset mortgage or something, it would be damaging to my pride but I wouldn't want to lose my home...) If you are on a smaller wage as you say you are then security is what you need. You don't want any nasty surprises - even if it ends up costing you more as the rates don't rise; knowing that you can meet your mortgage is the most important thing.Mini Challenge - Halve 2nd Mortgage by Year EndStarting: £10,000 Currently £8,142.62£3,142.62 to go!0 -

Hi Baileys...just come across your diary for the first time...you are my favourite drink btw

Great goals, sounds like you are covering every possible eventuality and taking it slowly but surely...a sure way to progress. I am a MFW in waiting, no overpayments so far just ensuring all credit cards paid off first with a decent amount of savings behind us. But love this forum esp the small MFW things you have done too, it all adds up in our pocket and in no-one else's. It is all about training ourselves how to think before we spend and how to be money wise, that is a big achievement in itself. :money:
Good luck

Hi Baileys, i've just read your diary and you're doing brilliantly, well done! :T I have also just bought out my ex and am now tackling the mortgage alone. I'm trying to find as many ways to save money as I can so that I can overpay the mortgage so i'll be watching your thread with interest.
Take care,

Hello Everyone
Can't believe another month is over!!
Anyway this month I have done the following to reduce my mortgage/credit card debt:-- £80 Regular Overpayment off mortgage
- Paid minimum payments off credit cards
- Saved in Regular Saver (8%) - £30 difference in minimum/regular payments from credit cards, £80 council tax from March, £100 Overtime, £10 Bingo win, £30 loose change.
- Claimed £45 in rewards from surveys (£10 V.O, £20 R.O, £15 Toluna)
- Have been DTD in Tesco's and have had £90 in vouchers so far

It would be nice if I could save up to pay off my credit cards in full as the Regular Saver expires the same time as the 0% rates finish, so thats my little challenge! At the moment I have a £1500 shortfall - its going to be tough but I'm up for it.
Have a lovely bank holiday weekend
