No chocies for me today. I bought early yesterday and paid for next day delivery. I had the email offering the 2 chocholic hampers last night but alas no little box for me today... AH . Hope for a delivery tomorrow or will have to give dh the tin of roses i was keeping for a bad day.0

I have not even had an email offering alternatives ..... so glad I paid through PaypalI have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0
-
I have had dispatch e-mail but nothing saying a different selection will be sent. Did everyone who got a different order get alerted that this was the case beforehand or did different chocs just turn up?0

Oh for goodness sake !!
I'm sure that we all realised that the price drop to £30 for this hamper was a mistake.
I ordered fully realising that this was an error by their website designer. I ordered assuming that there was a fairly high chance that they would not honour the order (probably offering me some other product, but not upto the full £120 value), TBH I think we were all being somewhat cheeky to take advantage of this 'offer' at all.
I think sending out a substitution worth £80 is actually pretty good show, because they are still taking a loss on the deal. Financially they would be better off simply saying 'sorry, out of stock' and refunding your money.
I will be quite happy if my friends end up getting this substitution. Yep the christmassy stuff would have been nice for the kids, but they will still end up with some very nice chocolates, at a spiffing price.
I think you're absolutely wrong, I'm afraid. This was probably never a mistake by Thorntons, but just a cynical device which they use all the time.
They sell high volumes and boost their cashflow by marking items up to silly fantasy prices, and then marking them down again so that people think they're getting a bargain and buy.
They may even have planned the substitutions all the time, with the intention of getting rid of all the unsaleable Christmas stock like this.
It will rebound on them, though. Many people who have been caught by this little trick will never buy Thorntons again. Not the way a reputable company behaves, I'm afraid.0 -

With reference to your rights, you can ask them to pick up your order as it was not what you were expecting. Alternatively you can return it at your cost and get a refund from them - you do not have to pay return postage for an incorrect order. Call customer service using saynoto0870 - be nice and I'm sure you'll have a good outcome.
Btw, I had the same email and don't feel it was at all peremptory, although I agree we should have had an option to cancel included if not happy with the substitution.
Not an obvious misprice at all - their 'list' prices are so ludicrously overinflated that even reducing them by 75% only brings them down to normality.
This was, I think, no glitch. My guess is that they knew exactly what they were doing when they dropped the price to £30 - it was only worth around that in reality anyway when you look at the prices the individual items normally sell at.
This is very sharp practice by Thorntons, particularly if you take the view, as some do, that the whole plan behind this was to offload all their cheap stuff onto what they cynically saw as a gullible group of customers they could get the better of.0 -
yes think you could be right!
just gone back on their website and it says they don't do next day for scotland, northern ireland etc..expected delivery for 'premium' is 2 working days for us so fingers crossed
looking forward to seeing what actually arrives too as had no notice of any substitutes
either way i'll be happy with whatever choccies arrive at that price!
WOW-Cant believe it,but i got mine(im in Scotland,North Lanarkshire..45min drive from Glasgow..dunno if Thorntons have a warehouse nearby or something)
..i went out at 4pm,came back at 8.30 and my hamper had been handed in to my next door neighbour.
The original winterwonderland hamper too..the first things visible on opening the box are the chocolate santa, snowman, and reindeer.the box is crammed full,I havent checked it against the list of products as detailed on the website, but im more than happy with what ive got for £30(probably OK for £60 too,but wouldnt be happy paying £120)..offhand there are 3 big chocolate characters, 2 box's of continentals, box of mint chocs, box of dessert chocs, big box of classics(or similar),box of mixed toffee and chocolate brazil nuts and bobble truffle thingys and several packets of fudge, pralines etc...will check it against the web description tomorrow.
No invoice or any paperwork with the box tho...side of my hamper box is very slightly squished too,but all contents intact, and I definately wont be complaining after getting it for £30(plus only £2 for next day delivery)..Thorntons have impressed me with this one.

Another day and still no order. The parcel status was changed from out for delivery on the 11th to out for delivery on the 21sr yesterday but still has not been sent out. Sick? Oh yes especially as the customer services confirmed today that on Monday I was lied to, I was told they would send another with 48 hour delivery as we have already waited 2 weeks. They haven't even sent another!
Tomorrow I will request a refundOne day I might be more organised...........
