I've had the email mentioned above and will be accepting (I asume that Full refund means just that - including postage!)
Once the money has been credited, I will take the thing apart to see if the battery is replaceable - I like doing that sort of thing, but I'm going to make sure I get the money and don't have to send it back first!
I suspect, as others have mentioned, that it is the Li-Ion battery - a quick search on Google (not related to this but which proved to be informative) suggested that nless the battery is regularly charged, even with only a trickle, it will lose capacity quite quickly - the site (I didn't bookmark it alas) suggested as quickly as 6 months - the copyright date on the manuals on these things is 2003 so they could have been in storage for 2-3 years uncharged!
As for Benq going into administration - this is due (I think) to Siemens selling their loss-making mobile division to Benq (BBC news item - if this breaks a rule, my apologies and please do delete the link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4616515.stm) I assume Benq couldn't turn the business around either...
Thanks to all who posted here - I would have become seriously deranged if it were not for the helpful stuff I read here!

  • I can't beleive I sent mine back yesterday, I'd love to pull one apart; so if anyone here doesn't feel up to the challenge of fixing them, I'll gladly pay your postage to send one to me to play with!

Just PM me once you've been refunded and I'll arrange it.

They'd darn well better refund my postage as well as trhe unit price, mind you I don't mind if they refund the £19.99 price as charged to other posters on this forum.
I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing! ;)

But first, the most asked question:

Q "Is anything worn under your kilt???"

A "No. Everything is in perfect working order Thank You!!."

They phoned me up after I sent them an email stating that I wouldn't phone their money-generating 0870 number.

Naturally I gave them a choice of my 0870 number or my mobile... :D

The number which came up on my phone was 01628 539800 if that helps anyone :D:D

They confirmed full price including postage would be refunded and I was to throw it away as per emails received.

I will be opening mine up now to see if I can make it work... (haven't got a Torx small enough at the mo.) Take the V-shaped bit under the Siemens badge off and the screw is under there.

Well, I've got a set of Torx screwdrivers coming - as soon as they arrive and I can work out what the replacement battery is, I will try to post online somewhere a step-by-step guide (if I can get it to work that is! If I can't, it will just be a load of pictures of bits of Bluetooth headset!)

  • Just like to say sorry to all those people who followed my original post. Didn't realise this was going to be such an ordeal.

Personally I managed to 'negotiate' the original offer and they 'kindly' honoured the original deal and sent me the 3 for 2. After checking back here though and seeing the problems people were having I decided it was better to check the headsets.

These were originally meant as stocking fillers so I tried one headset. At first I thought it was a dud as when I plugged in the charger it went Red then immediately Green (continuous green).

After opening it up and realising there wasn't an easy way of replacing the battery I tried again with the same result.

In the end (by fluke !) I turned off the charger at the mains (left it plugged into the headset) then switched it on again and this time it stayed in a constant red light state. A couple of hours later it flicked to green and I was able to pair it with my phone.

Problem I have now is do I open the other 2 (looks a bit crap when you give 'opened' gifts to people and they have packaged these in such a way as you can't open without damaging the package !) or do I give them out and hope for the best ?

Anyway just wanted to say sorry again for all the hassle this has caused everyone.

Interesting, I just tired the above, first time I put the charger in the headset plugged it into the wall and switched on at the wall, quick red light then green (the headset was in the off position), so I tried again this time I put the headset into the on position and switched on at the wall, now I have a steady red light. It will be interesting to see if this works.

    I'll keep you posted.

Apology not accepted, as it is not required ;) . Not your fault at all. If you didn't post in the first place then we wouldn't have known about the deal. It's just one of those things that everything was faulty. It's not like we've been conned. I say thanks again for the heads up. Just a shame Siemens couldn't follow through.
