Just had a test drive today but unsure of what one to go for?
The Diesel looks good on paper but im not sure if the petrol will give me more joy overall..
anyone any advice?

Depends how many miles you do. Under 6k get a petrol, otherwise a diesel. You'll struggle to get anything around the mid-teens on mpg in the petrol. Plus the diesel will be worth billions more when you come to sell it.The man without a signature.0

I'd only consider the V8 supercharged petrol engine0

New? as in TDV8? That would be my choice TBH... Yes the Petrols make bigger figures but if your covering the miles or using it for towing etc then Diesel is the obvious choice.
Not driven TDV8... Driven the RR with the TD6 and was impressed... Considered swapping the pickup and one of the cars for one but the potential repair bills and experience of a mate with one scared me half to death... I'm hearing good things about the Merc G Class... I'd be tempted to look that direction aswell as the RR if it were me...0 -

Its going to be about that as im only going to use it infrequently.. I use Public transport as a rule but fancy something a bit nice cos the missus got her nice one so i want one too!!
Im not fussed about the re-sale really cos ill have it for 5 year and then get a new one but as a toy it will be good."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
Assuming the question isn't a wind up then if you can afford one get a full size RR with the V8 Diesel.
The Sport is a Discovery in a different frock, and usually shod on summer slick tyres with darkened windows, it's at home in inner city hell hole's and footballer's hell hole's of Cheshire.
RR is luxurious, sits higher, is in it's own world of refinement and coupled with the V8 Diesel will give effortless performance whilst retaining that country air that is completely missing from the Sport.
Before you sign on the dotted line have you tried a Landcruiser 200 to compare, it doesn't have the kudos of the RR if that matters but is arguably the best top line 4x4 ever built, and will be miles more reliable.0 -

RRS 4.2 Supercharger drives like nothing else on the road. I've driven a few and highly recommend it. But the diesel is worth a fortune more second hand.0
