Sparkle, thanks I think Mum would prefer Billy to Blood Brothers as I don't think she will of heard of BB. I have read the reviews but may are from seasoned theatre user's so they comment on the stage/backgrounds/props and as we have never really been before I can't say we will know any different :rotfl:
Thanks for all that info PoppyWe don't shop at tesco as we don't have a food store nearby so I don't think I will be able to go for them. I did think about shoping there for a few months but I don't know if the vouchers will be produced in time. However ebay is a great idea
At the moment I am thinking, river tour and London eye flight (free), science museum and/or national history museum (free), tower of London (£19ea), the usual sites ie Trafalger Sq-Big Ben-Buckingham Pallace-Westminster Abbey (free unless going inside) Billy Elliott (£80 max) and prob shopping :rotfl: A week I don't think is enough but if I love it down there I will plan a two week holiday in 2012, outside the olympics.
Have a great time Poppy :j
Gem, ahh ok I think Dangers has answered that one. Oh we never have breakfast at a TL always take something. Right now its still the cheapest (except EasyHotel) and the best for reviews. I have found a few b&b's but they are dire. The travel lodge is £200 (give or take £10 for location) for 4 nights and at least you know what you are getting. I just don't know which location to chosse, I wanted to be near Victoria as most of the things we will be seeing/going is in that area but I am unsure
Thanks Beanie, I would chosse that over Billy and certainly over Mamma Mia but as I am trying to please Mum too it's hard0 -
Pap the tube is brill and a lot of the main sites can be walked very easily. We always top up an oyster card when we go and see my brother up there. It works out cheaper than paying for individual journey's and if you work out the route each day will probably be cheaper than a day ticket. One of our favs is go along south bank and see the Tate modern etc. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Thanks Pen, I do want to use the tube but I imagine us getting lost
I researched oysters last night and they are £13 for a vistors card which gives you £10 usage, do you think I will use that amount? I don't want to buy two and then not use them. I wonder if you can get a refund on them? Or sell them on ebay with the remaining credit? Or are they printed with your name? Tate is one of my 'must's' but I don't think its something Mum would enjoy, even the NHM and SM is pushing it really :rotfl:

From memory, I think you just have to pay a £5 deposit for each oyster card and then top it up as you go along. You can hand the card back in afterwards and re-claim the deposit I think (but don't quote me on that !). I'm sure there has been a MSE thread on this recently.
I just hang on to them as we go up 3 or 4 times a year. I add some funds online with the london transport site before we go - I know that we always go from paddington to the same tube line so it does it automatically at the gate.
Don't be frightened of the tube, I can manage it now with my god daughters buggie and I am a complete rural country bumpkin. Its so well written up and I've found people to be helpful. As long as its not 4-6pm in the evening, just take your time - there are loads of tube maps in each station that are really easy to sus out. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
you will easily use ten pounds Pap (its (in my opinion) very expensive, easy but expensive) if you are going to use it each day you are in London, it costs maybe two three pounds a journey, if you make lots of journeys then you can charged for a one day travelcard, which I can't find the price for! hang on, You can only be charged a certain amount - think this is the correct table?
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/14416.aspx
I think it would be £8? so if you only used it one day, you would be ok with a tenner

Thanks Pen, that sounds like it will be a much better idea as I don't want to keep a card that will not get used. I will research it and see. I am not scared of them as a rule of thuumb I am just worried we will spend all day on them and Mum isn't good walking up/downstairs. Also its always busy when its seen on tv etc so that worries me a little, but I guess if we stick to bus' in peak times we should me fine
Buffy, they maybe a better idea, they are travelcards rather than oyster cards. Certainly for one day we will be using it a lot as we will be seeing the sites and hopping on/off. Thanks
Hi Billie, yes I am very happy :j I think Billy has won but I am unsure on tickets. There are some for £49 (pair) but on theatre monkey they say these seats are obsucured the next range is £80 (pair) its a huge difference in price
Hi Pamella, I am so proud to inspire people on here. I hope you all the sucess in your debt free/saving journey. However please be aware my outgoings are very low because I still live at homeHave a great week.
So I have finally booked a hotel, I went with a B&B because compared to price and ratings it was the best, even better than travelodge, also breakfast included. So this is what I have booked, 4 nights, £180. However I believe you don't pay until you get there which is great because it give me time to saveI have also booked my red letter day pack so that's great. Its slowly coming together, even though it is over 100days away :rotfl:

The B&B looks lovely PAP, good price. I love the corner bath, the bathroom looks huge! You wouldn't get that in a Travelodge!
Sounds like you're having fun planning your trip, I love doing that when I book to go somewhere, I get all excited at planning every last minute!:D

Have a great week.
Mine are really freakishly low considering- my boyfriend pays for most of it, I just contribute extra to the rent, council tax and I pay our phone bill! Really scary considering I may be about to get a job that'll mean much lower wages for a while (although much higher happiness levels!)
I really hope you enjoy London, last time I went I had so much fun planning it!
